    Interesting...

    Linky

Does this mean that Microsoft's monopoly is under pressure? Or will it make a splash and disappear?

Well, Fry's Electronics and many other big box electronics stores have their own brand of computers...so since Wal Mart's goal is to force all other competition out of business, it makes sense that it would eventually produce their own line of computers. The reason it uses Linux and Google apps? They're FREE! If Wal Mart can find a way to save a buck, it'll do it, even if it screws the consumer. :nono:

BTW, I'm not bashing on Linux or Google here...I just really hate Wal Mart. :rolling:

Kind of reminds me of what Asus is doing with their Eee pc laptop (ie a cheap, linux based computer, with no optical drive and no extras).

[EDIT] - wow new gem :D

I don't see much point in this, to be honest. The cheapest regular laptop will only cost you a couple hundred bucks more (if that), and it'll be infinitely more usable than this kind of laptops.

Dell have been selling laptops with Ubuntu installed for quite a while now... they're as dear as the ones with Vista, though.

Tal, I don't know if Wal Mart has infested your country yet (I hope not), but looking at the typical Wal Mart customer, I *highly* doubt that they know that. :nolike: :rolling:

Finally, the opportunity not to buy a M$ license for someone who doesen't need it (like me), without having to build a custom laptop from scratch. I've hunted for a Winblows-free laptop for months and nobody wanted to sell me one. The reason? An agreement with M$, of course.

TBT, I already have a good Linux laptop, so I don't need one, but I definitively applaud the initiative. Linux is a great OS (though FreeBSD is better) that definitively deserves to shine. And the customer definitively deserves the freedom of choice.
