That's right... Kit, BTA, you probably remember my thread about this subject, eh? Well, it's theory no longer. A friend of mine who dabbles in electronics stopped by today, and I told him I wanted to get rid of the white backlight. We went to the electronics store to get the necessary stuff, then I grabbed a couple of cans of caffeine and got to work.

With his guidance, I successfully changed the boring white LEDS in favor of some red ones. He tweaked the voltage so the LEDs shine a dark -- almost blood -- red.

Unfortunately, on all pics I took, the keypad looks pink-ish, and totally does not do justice to the beautiful deep red it actually is.

If I can find out how to disable the flash on my Panasonic cam, then I'll post a few pics of the end result.

    Hmmmm...

You get 50 Geek points for the successful mod...however, since it was done on the phone in question, you loose 10 points. :p

Seriously though, that phone is a brick with a tiny screen. :nono: :rolling:

That's exactly why I chose this phone to mod.

Nice, good work on the phone. You get my vote for geek of the year. Perhaps it is time for some funny elections.

Good idea. What say you, Tal?

The 2125i is actually a pretty small sucker. I originally wanted to mod my old analog brick, but it can't be used anymore.

I've actually had an offer from someone for the modded 2125i. The phones I add in my collection stay there, but now that I succesfully modded a phone, I think I'll start doing it for other folks. There's some dough to made, and I sure as hell need all the cash I can get.

Mobile phones are intrinsically too cool to be considered geek. :shake:

Off topic question to our expert.

If you have a computer whit a clear case, 12 ccfl lights, UV reactive sleeving and data cables, four fans whit light, and one whit a light textwriter. You have sleeved almost every cable whit UV reactive mantels, even have leds inside the power unit and know every screw in the box. Are you a geek or a nerd?

That is pure Geek. Tech-Geek to be exact.

The closest a Nerd comes to a custom rig, would be a Dell. :p However, nerds often tout the fact that they have an abacus and a custom made pocket protector. :p :rolling:

I added a pic of the modded 2125i plus a pic of a part of my phone collection in the SP MSN group.

The red looks pink, but it's NOT PINK!

Yeah, right...and Tal's not a Pink Dragon either... :p :shake:

I remember my cousin had an old brick of a Nokia that looked similar to that...he bought a custom face-plate for it that added hundreds of LEDs to the every inch of the phone, including the keys. When he got a call...it looked like a UFO was landing. :skeptic: But unlike you phone, his LEDs actually looked red. :p :rolling:
