For years I have accepted the fact that the light in my fridge did go out after I closed the door. But recently I discovered it is not so.

Please do not bring the straight jacket, it is true. On night I was wandering trough my house whit the lights out while some cats were fighting outside, to count mine until I noticed the illuminant outlining in the refrigerator door. After some beta testing I concluded that the light did not go out.

The first thing most Dutch think of is: How much money has it cost me? (Yes we have a soft spot for Waukeen.) A light bulb of 15 watts, still gives out heat, warming the inside of the fridge.

What we learn from this? First: Science is in motion. Second: Why do these thought patterns not occur at work?

You've got some funny fridge there, then (or more likely, a broken/stuck light switch). All of the ones I've seen here only turn on the light when you open the door, because the release of the switch when you open the door triggers the light turning on. When you close the door, the switch is pushed back in, which turns the light off.

In my fridge the light goes off before the door closes, you can get the light off when the door is about 15cm from closing.

I admit I'm not a metric guy, but 15cm seems awfully far

15cm is about 6 inches. So a bit sooner than the fridges I have come across, but not excessively so.

Admittedly, insanity was my first thought when I read the thread title.

Merlanni, fridges have what's called a 'normally closed' switch. In its natural state, the switch is closed, which passes electricity. When you close the door, that switch becomes open. Obviously, the switch is dead. The good news is, they're dirt cheap. It's a repair you *could* do yourself, but it's probably best to get a pro to do it for you. :rolling:

I know, I know I am not that ignorant. Its is just the way I found out. Cat fighting in the dark, he got a nasty cut, while I noticed the glow from the door. You know how you can think in a curve due to a lack of sleep.

It was just like in a book or movie such a magical glow it took a while before I got It. First I switched off the kitchen light, but that went on. Opened and closed the fridge door and tested the switch. The bulb shorted and stayed off. I kept the bulb in the fridge until I get around to buy a new one to prevent condensation in the electrical socket. I know it is the switch, but I need a new bulb first to prove it is the switch.

And being a typical male, I will get the bulb someday totally unexpected, and not on the days off I had.
