An idea for any SP'ers planning to propose to their sweethearts? :D

    -------------

Bernie Peng reprogrammed Tammy Li's favorite video game, "Bejeweled," so a ring and a marriage proposal would show up on the screen when she reached a certain score.

Li reached the needed score - and said yes.

What if she sucked at the game and never hit the required score? How would he know? He'd either have to say "hey, do you play that game much anymore?" or something similar.

I'm glad it worked for the guy, though!

It took him a month to reprogram the game ... imagine if she just got bored of the game and stopped playing. Now that would be a real waste.

I think it's amusing that Popcap is planning to fly the couple to their home base of Seattle as part of the honeymoon, and give them copies of the game to hand out as favors.

A refreshing change from companies that sue...

Sweet. Imagine how she felt when the message popped up...

Still, as plans go, this one was a bit shaky... What if the game simply crashed?
And technically, nothing guarantied that he would be there when she read the message, so he's effectively missed his own proposal?
I'd rather like that a guy be there when he proposes to me, to hear the answer. ;)

However, it was romantic, a lot of effort went into it, and she said yes. Mission accomplished. All that remains is the happily ever after part... :)

It's relatively simple e.g. to fire an alert window once her IP pays a visit to your site. :p "Become Mrs Nerd. [OK] [Cancel]" :p

In fact, the Cancel button could keep escaping the mouse cursor. :p

Or it could work as a one-time scheduled event in Windows. Or screensaver. Whatever

    Not like I care.

    [Marry me] [Format C:] :p

Does that really happen? I have never heard of a guy asking a woman to marry him and have the answer be a no. I, like so many other men, have heard a fair share of "no" when asking someone out on a date, but I would like to think that most guys would not go through all of the trouble of buying a ring, and thinking of a romantic way of proposing, unless there was a near certain chance that the response would be "yes".

Believe it or not, it actually happened to a friend of mine. Dude, the guy was not a happy camper, I can tell you that.

I know a guy who surprised his girlfriend at work (she's a waitress) with a wedding proposal and not only did she say no but went on to inform him that she had been seeing someone else.

Aldeth, The calculation of the certainty that she will say yes can be skewed by things like desperation, denial or delusion.

It was twice? Curse me and my shoddy memory, then. It also happened to another of my buddies, though the circumstances were different -- it's a rather complicated story.

I just hope that he used proper english and not 1337 or some other crap geek language. Would be a fine way to dull down a romantic moment.

@DoTW: Different girls, different girls. One fairly recently, last year, one about three years ago.

I wonder if this guy'd be turned down by this specific girl, would he have the guts or the bloodymindedness not to learn from his mistakes to pull off this particular stunt with another girl :hmm: ...and if that would've failed, then yet with another one...ad infinitum.

Would this be a good pickup technique? :shake:
