Books found in games

Well, I have two questions about this topic really:

1. Do you read all the various books that can be found on the shelves of many CRPG worlds, do you read some, or none? (when playing the game for the first few times, that is)

2.What are your favorites (if you have any)?

For me:

1. I read every single book, scroll, parchment or item description there is. (My brother claims it's an obsession.)

2. Morrowind - many of them. I can't remember the titles but:
-one where the demons speak of the nature of man
-two thieves breaking into a house filled with ghosts of a murdered family, and the monster (still alive)...
Morrowind is a game with best in-game books I've ever played.

NWN2 - Wind by the fireside
BG Series - Tale of the fateful coin,Tale of Light and Darkness...
IWD series: I cant remember any right now, but there were some nice item description stories (Final word, "Enough"...)

I'll probably edit this post when my memory decides to wake up.
So, what about you?

 

I only read some books, I first try to collect the previous editions before reading the ones I have at that moment. Vivecs Sermons and some others come to mind.
The letter in the fishermans cabin in Morrowind was very good and the atmosphere of the cabin somehow reflected what was written in the poem. It was abandoned and the poem just gave me the idea that the owner drowned himself in the sea to get back to his previous life. That letter is my favourite document that I found in a game.

 

These are rather short anyway. My favourite is "How to be an Adventurer" in IWD2. Very funny.
I rarely have the time to read extensively these in game books, I just browse.
BG 1 and 2 being an exception, considering BG I'm rather thorough.

Don't worry...I didn't understand it either. And considering he's British, the cheeky bast**d probably doesn't understand it himself!

As for me, I read a lot of the ones in BG, but by the time I got to BG2 I just skimmed over the ones that looked interesting.

 

I think the only game I read many of the books in was BG1. Some of them were very well-written, and I was genuinely surprised when I discovered some were directly related to the game's story (History of the Dead Three especially).

I read some of them in BG2 but stopped by the time I got to NWN. I don't think I've consistently read books in any of the other games.

 

It's a saying. Possibly just used around Yorkshire/Lancashire/Derbyshire.

''eckerlike' means 'no they/he/I won't/don't'... 'no' basically.

E.g.
Guy 1: Do you think John will bring plenty of money to the pub so we don't have to buy his drinks all night?

Guy 2: Will he eckers like!

--

Guy 1: I've heard you let other men put their man rods up your bum... ?

Guy 2: Do I eckers like!


... etc. etc. etc.

 

Sometimes. I didn't read them all in Morrowind, but I did at some point look at the main ones for the main quest.

My favourite was simply a note entitles "Avoiding Tower Traps" in Curse of the Azure Bonds. It read: "1. Don't read explosive runes" then it blew up...

I used to, but not so much anymore. Depends how invested I am in the world/game. Some worlds just aren't worth finding out more about.

i only read them sometimes, like when they're short. I do remember enjoying "tale of the fateful coin" though.

 

It depends how interesting the game is. Usually, I like it when there is something to flesh out the game world so if I don't have much to do I tend to read them, especially if I want to get the most out of a game (not a penny wasted ). Also, if there is some good music in the area I like to kick about a bit a listen to it so it gives me an excuse to stay

 

I remember reading The History of the Fateful Coin. I read a fair few books in BG, some in Oblivion, and even a couple on World of Warcraft. Yes, even the gargantuan MMO has a load of books all over the place relating to the game world and the gap between Warcraft 3 and it.

 

I have to mention Arcanum as well. You can read books and newspapers which is quite fun actually.
Reading the press gives even more atmosphere to the game.

 

I forgot about Arcanum's papers! That was a lot of fun. The social and political satire in there is great.

 

In Oblivion and Morrowind you find tons of books.

My favorite is the real Berenziah.
