Is this a sound solo strategy?

I just came up with a kinda cool (at least I think so) solo idea (and a relatively fresh one, if I'm not mistaken). I'm thinking of playing a Lawful Good solo Dwarf Barbarian.

Start in BGI (tutu) -- The tomes help so much. At least the physical ones (STR helps THAC0/damage, DEX actually increases AC (17-18 DEX), and CON grants regeneration. Higher amount of starting XP in SoA also helps in the beginning.

In BGII, concentrate on dual wielding, with ** in Long Swords, Bastard Swords, Katanas, and Flails (I'll have tons of proficiencies left over).

In Watcher's Keep, I'll be able to get the Purifier (Lawful Good). With that, and the Sword of Balduran I'll have a decent magic resistance. If I'm not fighting spellchuckers, I equip the Defender of Easthaven for more physical resistances.

When I get to ToB, my goals are on upgrading the Purifier for an additional 10% MR.

I'm choosing Dwarf for the better saving throws (I considered Half-Orc for the higher STR and DEX, but since this character is based on being able to take a beating I don't think it'll matter much).

After I think about it, maybe I'll go for Half-Orc instead. I'm not sure yet.

    So, whatchya think?

I thought Purifier could only be wielded by a paladin....

There's no such thing as an unsound solo strategy in an unmodded BG2 game.

Yea the purifier can only be wielded by paladins or thieves with UAI. I once built a fighter/swashbuckler specifically for that sword :)

I never tried a solo game, but aren't you going to be in serious trouble against spellcasters with stoneskins or PfMW or both? With PfMW you'll be swinging for no damage for 4 rounds (and probably take some serious spell damage), unless you bring a normal weapon.

    Half-Orc is a great char.

Do you actually ever get to play any of these many games you ask for opinions for?

Klorox prefers the little bearded fellows because of regeneration. STR 20 wouldn't be that bad with a Half Orc but you get items that can boost it so going for CON instead is not such a bad move.

You're preaching to the choir. :pope:

But I suspect that Klorox is going to play a modded game?

Soloing a fighter might be a little boring after a while, it's all about getting the right items and then all you have to do is just point and click.

    AAAARRRRGGGHHH!

I totally forgot the Purifier was meant for Paladins.

Back to the old drawing board.

Well, there is still Foebane, which is none too shabby. Still, I take it that Purifier was there primarily for MR?

Yeah. And dual-wielding Hindo's Doom +4 and the Sword of Balduran won't cut it for me.
