[IMG] Hi everyone! Cleric_Of_Mask here! New member.

I picked up BG's 1 & 2 and IWD's 1 & 2 at a flea market for 10 bucks (brand new AND sealed!) and I was going through the main page for mods etc and I noticed that the list had grown exponentially!

    I've a few questions...

    - If I play thru BG1 with plans of importing the character, Iwill the various mods and weapons/items for BG2 allow this?

    - What are the 2 official additions for IWD1? Are they still available?

    - Someone was raving about WeimerWEIDU (or something)for the games I mentioned). Are they that good?

    - How hard is to make a kit for BG2? I've an interest in making my character (Tarek Kahn, a cleric of Mask) who has thieving abilities as well as cleric spells (but he isn't a rogue/cleric)

    Thanks in advance!

[IMG] These questions would have been better split by forums as they're very diverse, but rather than chop your post up I'll just move it to the Dragons Not Required forum which is a bit better fit than the IE Modding forum.

I'll try to answer all of them:

    1) That question is a bit unclear, but as far as I know, mods in either of the games have no effect on your ability to import a BG1 char into BG2.

    2) The two add-ons for IWD are Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster. HoW was released in a box and you can still buy it in places (e.g. our store), whereas TotL was released as a free downloadable addon. You can download it from SP here.

    3) Weimer is the creator of WeiDU, which is a dialogue compiler, string patcher, script and text file extender for Infinity Engine games and is available (source code and all) under the GPL. Most modern IE mods use WeiDU since it's the easiest way to make mods compatible with each other.

    4) You can do many of such basic alterations with ShadowKeeper alone, though I don't know if it's possible in that particular case. I'm sure someone who knows will respond here.

I'd just like to point out that a dragon was, in fact, required. :p

    4) Not possible with ShadowKeeper alone, but I'd suggest just going with a thief/cleric, in the end, it's exactly the same thing.

Oh sorry! I should've been clearer. Let's say I play a thief in BG1. I then install BG2 with new items and mods that catch my eye. Can I still import and play the character w/o having any problems. Has this been addressed before by any chance?

You would start BG2 as a thief. You would be able to choose any of the kits -- assassin, bounty hunter, or swashbuckler (provided you're not a multiclassed thief). You could also dual class, if human, to any acceptable dual class after the start of the game.

Mods should not affect you're ability to import your character from BG1. If you add mods you would have any of the modded kits available to you. If you like rogues you may want to check out the Rogue Rebalancing Mod.
