Has anyone heard anything about Microsoft new OS that is suppose to use less resources and make computers faster?

From what I have heard it maybe out in 2009 or early 2010. If Windows 7 does what they say; than those of us using Windows XP but don't want to upgrade to Vista may want to continue holding off on buying Vista.

Has anyone else heard any rumors?

I've heard sever rumors and speculations...which at this point are all moot. The only thing that's for sure is that Windows 7 will be the next version of Windows. :p

I'll probably get more in to it once M$ releases some sort of a preview or a release candidate... :rolling:

I herd that they are releasing it in 09, and additionally they are continuing support of XP up until 2015 (however large computer companies may no longer sell XP with their ready-made computers)

If Windows 7 turns out to be as badly delayed as Vista was, then 2015 will also be the year Windows 7 is released! :D

I wouldn't count on it before 2010, so it's relatively far away still.

2010 is soon enough. Keep XP if you have it. I believe some call it Vienna, but I also heard Fuji as codename. What si nice to hear is that MS is looking for a more online operating system and windows 7 will be the last windows as we know it.

little poll who is first: Windows 7, Duke Nukem or Dragon Age

If I upgrade my current computer due to a motherboard and hard drive failure can I use the current XP Media Center OS I have or would I have to purchase a new license? My mobo and HD are starting to act up on me and I am pretty close to using my bat on them to make sure they ummmm they fail.

If you have a full retail version, yes. if you have an oem licence, no. That one is linked whit the motherboard. In the system menu your code is listed.

It is possible that if you call them and explain it might work after you replaces the motherboard, but this is a long shot.

Media centre is a part of Vista.

I read that Microsoft is experimenting on a new OS which isn't (!) based on the Windows platform. Would they finally see the light as Apple did and base there OS on a stable Unix platform? Yeah, that'll be the day...

What exactly is that supposed to mean? :-/
With the third rate internet that Australia enjoys, the less that forces me to use the internet the better (though of course, they promise to upgrade it, but, well, it's the government. If anything happens by 2010 I'd be surprised).

Whats nice about that? It sounds like gazillions of security leaks to me. Do people even need this? This automatic sharing of preferences and files between PC's? I can't, for the life of me, understand what is so great or useful about that. The only thing that Microsoft should do (IMO) is fix that terrible filesystem of theirs.
It's 2008 and their flagship OS still doesn't support symbolic links. How the **** am I supposed to create a manageable system without symbolic links???

PC Magazine had a nice long article on Windows 7 in their August issue. I suggest anyone interested to have a look. :thumb: :rolling:
