Alright, so here's the deal. I installed Gothic 3 sometime ago, and along with it came an annoying "Program Updates" which installed itself in my Control Panel, and I haven't been able to PERMANANTLY get rid of it.

This stupid POS likes to pop when I'm playing Ob/D2, and when it does, the said games crash.

It's nowhere to be found in Add/Remove program, nowhere in my Start menu... it's incrusted in the Control Panel, and since it's incrusted there, I can't nuke it. I haven't found it in the registry, either.

Any hints on how to get rid of this POS? I'm open to nuking my current installation and starting anew.

Try the download below. It is simple to use; press two buttons total. After using this software Vista was running 25% faster. It also cleaned out one items that was causing my system to hault on a regular basis. I also recommend their defrag utility.

Often such update programs are configurable. Have you run it to see if you can turn automatic updates off?

Alright, from Installshield's website, I downloaded a little program that supposedly removes the registry entries related to this update manager, so it shouldn't bother me anymore. Keeping my pinkies crossed, I'm tired of this POS crashing my games.
