missing dual class options?

    I recently started IWD (again :)) and this time I wanted some dual class characters (Before I just went single- or multi-class).
    I read A guide with possible options, and decided to go with
    Ranger 2 -> Mage.
    But this won't work. I cheated all stats to 18 to see if I was missing something, but doesn't help either.
    Fighter -> Mage works as do some other options.
    Was the guide wrong and Ranger isn't an option for dualclass or am I missing something?

    The guide is wrong. Ranger can only duel (and multiclass) with cleric.

    The manual gives a complete list of possible duals -- as does the character creation portion. You can only dual to class combinitions in the multiclass list.

    Baldur's Gate had a similar issue in that the manual got my hopes up that you could have a Druid-> Mage dual class,
