My annual cleaning day of my acrylic case made me wonder if I could place the board on the left side. Almost, but the reset and start wires were to short. So, back to as it was, and yes I think I wrecked the northbridge.:o

No sound during booting, not even a BIOS, completely dead. Well since circumstance can be a bonus an upgrade was essential. SO I now have a gigabyte 790X am3 phenom2 810 with 4 gig corsair 1333 ddr3 built in a Coolermaster Haf922 midi. 446 euro, not bad. Still 446 euro over budget.

That leaves me with a lot of parts wondering what is dead, undead, cursed and alive. Is the processor wrecked, the MB or both. What can be resurrected? Meanwhile the vultures are circlling the carcass.

The pretty case will be used for htcp in due time and re-funding. I can only raise taxes on myself.

The GA-MA 790X? Nice board. I went to NewEgg to check it out, since I'm not up on AMD stuff (and I'm not putting AMD down).

It might hold up a bit better than your old board, I think.

    Almost. MA790XT-UD4P

The difficult part was the case. A normal black box. I had to do it, and swallow my pride. The acrylic case was to small inside for a high end setup. The 4870 almost touched a HDD, just at the sata spot. The case itself is great, butt hell to assemble.

I am curious about the damage. The cooling of the Northbridge came loose so it might be that.

If the above motherboard is correct you will have to return your RAM for DDR2.

If this is the correct motherboard than you will be all set.

    GA-MA790XT-UD4P is a ddr3 board.

At five the dead verdict was past, at 7 pm I was back home and at 11 the system was running. Happytimes with the release candidate7 I had an OEM on the previous board.

I have a modulair PSU. The clip of the molex cables is the same as the secondary motherboardpowersocket. Not the 4 pins next to the 20, but the loose one. The previous case was cramped, so while doing two things at the same time it place the molex in the ..... That was the last drop for the acryl case.
