    It was captivating television. While not quite at the level of the O.J. Bronco chase it did have similar qualities and I'm sure the millions of people who watched it will remember it for quite a long time (if not the rest of their lives). The kid's quote on television really made it seem like the entire thing may have been a stunt. I'm still up in the air (bad pun) as to if it was a hoax or not.

    This whole thing reminds me of someone who's getting ready to go to jail:

    I hope they throw the book at them. But I really feel bad for the kids, having such sleezy parents and who are on their way to jail. This really stinks for the children. :(

    I’d be surprised if anyone went to jail over this. A fine, certainly. Supervised probation, probably. But jail – unlikely. Not that I think they don’t deserve it, but I also don’t think there was actually any criminal intent here, nor was anyone’s lives endangered; they “just” wasted the time of a lot of people (not that that isn’t significant). This was motivated by greed, and I suspect they didn’t really consider the ramifications of their actions (or if they did, they didn’t think it was a big deal).

    Funny thing is how they could think they would get away with it? Not the most original of stunts. Unless they thought the PR would be worth it even if they did get caught.

    The police officer in charge of the investigation already said that jail time is unlikely. While the charges seem significant, none exceed the level of a misdemeanor 3 (which is the highest level misdemeanor, but none are felonies). Sentencing guidelines for misdemeanor 3 and no prior convictions are usually fine plus probation - no jail time.
