Evasion ability, no matter where it comes from, is shut down by wearing anything heavier than studded leather. And as others have already pointed out, Chain of Drakkas isn't a chain armor as seen by the game's engine - it's actually a robe.

Some armors introduced by mods (such as Mail of Life) are even worse than that - they actually shut down ALL of your special abilities (barbarian rage, Laying of Hands, Deep Gnome racial Mirror Image etc) as well as both arcane AND divine spells. Quite a bug, eh?

Actually, Rechet, the Mail of Life isn't the fault of any mods. Rather, it's one of the "forgotten" armors and shields that exist in the base game, but isn't able to be obtained during game play. The mod that includes it simply made it accessable.

Also, I just pulled up the Mail of Life with DLTCEP and it's not at all obvious why it is bugged. I was expecting to see that it had one of the abilities from IWD1/BG that shut off arcane spell casting, but it doesn't show up. That said, it might still be there and DLTCEP in IWD2 mode cannot see it due to slight incompatibilities between the file formats used for IWD1/BG1/2 and IWD2.

Come to think of it... I think that I hit another such armor this past weekend... the Black Dragon Scale armor. (IIRC). I had it on my ranger for a short time and noticed that his spellcasting had been disabled. Ahhhh.... I just loaded this armor into DLTCEP and it DOES have the old "Disable Spellcasting" equipping effect in it. I could probably make a similar item within LoS, but if someone installed the "Forgetten Armors" section of the EoU mod, it'd just install the bugged one. I'm not sure that there's a perfect solution here for this reason.

I guess Sir Rechet just explained why no elf or dwarf was willing to wear it, eh? :) Especially given its mediocre stats.

Having grown up with the SSI Gold Box series, 6 always seemed like the norm, so its just natural. Heck, I even downloaded the TOEE mod that enables the 6th char for that game. I always need the Warrior, Healer, Arcane Caster, and trapsmith. For some reason I have a soft spot for the monk(EQ thing), and then throw in the final piece to round out the other 5.

Still isnt enough for me, as I have about 10 to 15 characters I would like to use at any one time. I used the Dalekeeper to set up master versions of each character, then when I want to start another playthru I just import the char of choice.

Yeah. I grew up with the Gold Box series as well. Even before that, I was playing Ultima IV which has up to 8. Also, I played Wizard's Crown and Eternal Dagger which allow 8 characters as well.

Dungeon Siege series allowed for 8 characters as well. Took me a while to realize it and played significant portions of the campaign with only six, until a genuine whoopsie moment taught me otherwise. :)
