Between the callous disrespect for law, and the association with Greenpeace (which does have a criminal record), I'd say stiff sencences.

A fact that causes those of us that hold this view more than a few tears, rest assured.

Honestly, I don't see the two as mutually exclusive. Sure, whistle blowers should be protected from revenge-minded actions (being fired, etc.), but someone who breaks into his co-worker's house to steal documents is still a thief, even if that thief proves the co-worker's been skimming money from the company for years.

I do agree with LKD, as well, that the first action we should take is actual enforcement of the laws we already have. Hey, maybe if the Christian Right and the Liberal Left joined forces on this issue, we could get some headway! Imagine the power of that unholy alliance!! Mwahahahahaha!!!

Greenpeace are working for a good cause, but they're doing it the (very) wrong way. The law is the law. You break it, you pay the price.

    CJ, good point.

As much as I support Greenpeace's cause, I can't but abhor their zealous attempts at keeping it in the headlines globally.

Come to think of it, I can't come up with any cause forwarded by zealotry. Seems much better at labeling the supporters of the cause (and in the long run the cause itself) as blithering idiots that shun logical thinking in favor of spreading The Word (tm).

There's an organisation in England called Fathers 4 Justice. They're trying to get rights for fathers in divorced couples with children - Good cause, I like it.

Problem is, they've been getting campaigning lessons from Greenpeace and they usually just cause trouble. At least they have a sense of humor about it, though.

Even so, you can't help but feel they're doing as much harm as good with these ridiculous stunts. I get you want to see your kids, but a judge is hardly going to be MORE likely to let you see them when you have a criminal record.

I think it's great. I'm all for these guys as well. Trying to get justice doesn't always involve staying inside the system. You won't get anywhere by just following the rules.

Given that they keep ending up in jail, you clearly wont get anywhere by breaking them either.

I got half way through writing a reply and realised it was incredibly hypocritical. With that in mind, I have to concede to you on this one.
