[IMG] ... for speaking out loud what I always think when I see moron reporters asking a football player whose team just lost 15:0 'how he feels right now', or asking the newly elected chancellor or president how he feels after her or his election victory, and not what she or he intends to do and what her or his plans are. Bah. The overall emphasis on 'emotion'. What about some substance?

The TV lady here here topped it by asking gold medallist Kramer not only what he won, but how he felt and who he was anyway. IMO she richly deserved Kramer's comment - because she was asking stupid questions.

:shake: Mr. Kramer, thank you! :shake:

I hope that in the long run such outspokenness will deliver us all from people like that first reporter.

I think the 'are you stupid' question was to the 'who are you and what country do you represent' question... right after he won the Gold Medal! This is what I mean about NBC's coverave being poor!

You don't really ask athletes in orange which country they are from.

Especially if they've just been announced as the gold metalist.

Tony Stewart gives the best answers

This is why I LOVE Tony Stewart. Reporters constantly ask him stupid questions and he ALWAYS tells it how it is. He's not like other sports stars. He doesn't cater to their idiocies.

Out of curiosity, while I am aware of Dutch athletes always wearing Orange, is this due to the legacy of Willem van Oranje? If so, I find it strange that the Dutch don't have orange in their flag.

I don't know why exactly, but it is very probable that it has to do with the house of Oranje.

What I do know is, that the Dutch had, on and off, orange or red and white and blue in their flag over the centuries.

Poor Kramer. Lost the gold in the 10000 meters for stupidity.

Ouch, that really sucks. That coach probably needs to go into hiding about now.

It's like the entire country is in either in mourning today or already making fun of this. 6.7 out of 16 million Dutch people saw this race yesterday and you know how seriously this sport is viewed by the Dutch when your Royal Prince announces this incident as a tragedy.

As it said at the end of the article:
More or less what I was thinking while I was reading the story. Why wouldn't Kramer know which lane he should be in? Although I suppose the argument could be made that he thought he knew, but had to make a split-second decision when the coach told him to do something else, and decided to rely on Kemkers.

I agree Splunge - he had a split second to decide, and since he may have been more focusing on his pace and speed, he may have forgot that he already slid to the outer ring a few hunder meters previously. One of the analysts in NBC last night (who was a former speed skater) said that he's seen skaters forget to change lanes before, but he's never seen a coach tell the skater to go to the wrong lane. He has also seen coaches correctly point out to skaters that they are in the wrong lane. Based on this, I feel the coach is more at fault than the skater - most athletes listen to their coaches.
