    The Shaman has already defeneded himself, but I would like to add, that as someone who is not an accountant, I did not take The Shaman's initial statement to be referring to typical accountants. I interpreted his statement as referring to the Wall Street type accountants - not the accountant down the street that does Average Joe's taxes.

    Yikes - twins! I hope you had some help - especially in that first year. As the father of a small child, I cannot imagine what it would be like to have two at the same time. My wife did get gestational diabetes, and while it stinks, it isn't too bad of a deal - you just have to basically follow a diabetic diet. And while it would stink to be permanently on a diabetic diet, she only had it for the last three months of the pregnancy.

    As Snook basically said earlier in his post, tax laws are specifically designed to allow various deductions, incentives, etc. to people who are eligible for them. However, there are often a number of such deductions, etc. that people may not be aware of. An accountant’s role is to minimize their clients’ tax burden by taking advantage of all deductions etc. that they are legitimately entitled to.

    I just found the statement quite ironic, as it is pretty similar to what the couple of the OP did - they only followed a course that is allowed by law.

    Actually, I gave my little beauties up for adoption. I wasn't in a position to take care of them (and please don't ask me about the father - unless you're willing to ask me again in the MUG forums) so I did what was best for them. They'll be 9 this August - gah I feel old lol.
