I have been watching and waiting for this mod to evolve from a Beta format. Playing IWD in the BG2 format would be excellent, as Half-Orcs in IWD just makes sense. I would also love to try and run 6 Sorcerers in IWD as well, elimnating the need for scrolls. With the heavy hack-n-slash style of IWD, 6 fireballs could be "devastiatng" to say the least.

But one thing I find bothering is the BG2 WP system in IWD. Obviously there is no need for a Katana WP. Plus the weapons are more random in IWD, making it harder to streamline your WPs. Though Dual-wielding and the other Fighting Stlyes would be interesting to utilize.

    Any thoughts or unforeseen issues?

Not sure. A few rp issues, I would think. But those are there anyway (kung fu in a western medieval setting). Maybe it will make the game too easy though? Lack of scrolls and such might have been in the original iwd to add balance to the difficulty.

Monk can make sense in an area like IWD. Monks do not have to be in an oriental setting, this is not planet earth they are on. A loner living in the extreme wilds of an IWD could easily follow a path that a monk would take. Living on his own, using mind over body to survive. The FR is a very diverse setting after all. Also, I beleive there are monks in Calimsham as well. When dealing with IWD, your PC wouldn't be the 1st character to show up in IWD. Can you say Regis and Artemis? How about the initial merchant in Easthaven, the Cali***** wizard with the big mouth?

"Economically and technologically, Faerûn is comparable to Western Europe during the late Middle Ages, giving most new players using this campaign setting an intuitive grasp of the way the society functions. Gunpowder, known here as the magical substance smoke powder and different in its composition from historical gunpowder, is starting to make an appearance, but much of the armament is still dominated by pre-gunpowder weaponry such as swords, spears, and bows. Most of the population of Faerûn consists of farmers, who are organized somewhat loosely in a semi-feudal system. There are also a number of notable cities, and trade between nations is common, comparable to the Renaissance era. Likewise, there are regions where more barbaric tribes and customs still persist."

The monks and the kung-fu bits was more or less introduced by wizards of the coast when they bought the rights to d&d. The monk in BG2 is a "beta version" of the 3ed Monk class. Its just my opinion though, but I feel they stick out in a bad way. They end up being immune to pretty much anything, just because they think a certain way. Zero magic involved. Its kind of like someone having a lightsaber, on Lost or the x-files.

Well, this is a fantasy setting after all...:D But I understand your point. I wasn't actually planning on running a monk anyway, as there won't be monk-only items in the IWD items list. Unless of course they(his all-might Weimer) add them.

Though monks were around in the Forgotten Realms before Wotc came along. There was a little, Purplish/Magenta colored box set called "Kara-Tur", around for years before Wizards stepped in. Some of the History in that set connects with the rest of Faerun. Travel along the Silk Road led to Semphar, Thay and the rest of Faerun.

Yeah, I remember the Kara-Tur bit. It was more or less a separate "setting" though, even if its part of Faerun. Al-Quadim was a similar beast. Set in....Zakhara (is that the name?). Kind of like a 1000 and one night setting.

As a long-time DM of many FR campaigns, I would incorprate all the possiblites of the Game world in to my campaign. The traveling circus of PCs at one time was.... they actually lasted though several adventures before tearing each other apart in the end. The Barbarian was the last man standing.

    Human Necromancer(LE) - Dalesmen
    Human Samurai(LG) - Shou
    Moon Elf F/M/T(NE) - Evereskan
    Half-Orc Barbarian(CN) - Thar
    Gold Elf Bladsinger(NG) - Elventree

Yeah, their site appears to be offline at the moment. Or at least I'm getting a message that the server can't be found.
