Because his puppy was found drunk.

OK, so he didn't take the best care of his pet, but this seems like a giant overreaction. I didn't think you Brits were so uptight! ;)

I dont think we're getting everything here, the article is incredibly vague, it doesnt even mention where in the UK the court is based or any infomation about the animal owner.

Rehousing an animal is usually the job of the RSPCA when courts deem that an animal is at risk from an owner, and it really is a last resort, they dont like rehousing animals, it isnt an easy thing to do. I think there is a bigger picture, maybe a history of animal welfare concerns to have brought this about.

the old "My dog drank my drink so the courts took him off me and banned me from owning a dog for 3 years" sounds more like an excuse from a child, it seems a little unrealistic.

    Edit:

I searched for this on the net and the results were bizzare news sources e.g.:

    http://www.salon.com/2012/01/04/man_banned_from_owning_dog_after_puppy_gets_drunk/
    http://www.newszilla.eu/2012/01/man-banned-from-owning-dog-after-puppy.html
    http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2012/01/04/2336090/man-banned-from-owning-dog-after.html

When searching real british news sources (guardian, telegraph and the independent) nothing shows, this hasnt appeared on bbc news or itv news or even channel 5 news, and isnt on their websites...

I don't think it is real.

In most areas I've lived having a dog that would drink (and get drunk) was a badge of honor. I had a cat who loved beer ... have you ever seen a drunk cat try to jump? They miss.

Hm. OK probably fake then; not surprising given the state of our media these days :)

Hehe. I'd love to see a drunk cat jumping. A stumbling dog is funny enough, but a cat would be hilarious! :)

[IMG] Also possibility it was the incident that drew attention to poor husbandry, the puppy was found near his home? Could have been in much poorer health than just a bit drunk.
