OK, I know how to do all the stuff on Shadow Keeper with your PC. Is it possible to use SK to modify the same stuff on NPCs within your party? If so, um.... how? Specifically I'm looking to fix up Coran I got from that mod - give him a more normal amount of XPs (he has too many), and up the number of proficiency points (he has too few).

When you pick Coran up save the game and enter shadow keeper. Load your save game (it cannot be an auto save by the way) and then you will see arrows under the character portrait. Click on the right arrow until you see coran and then modify away.

I must be a bleeping idiot - hence the name. I can't believe I never noticed that. I'm screwing around with the tools and properties tabs at the top, and the means of changing character is right on the freakin screen in front of me. I'm at work now, but I'll check when I get home.

Removing experience point is sometimes a problem. Lowering the amount won't necessarily lower other things like THAC0, saves, and hit points. You'll need to alter those individually. You might try looking at the tables on 'play it hard core' for the correct values. Keep in mind for a multiclass character the best save and THAC0 is used. Also some mods alter these tables, you would need to check those mods (it would suck to limit your characters when the enemy is using a different table) -- but you may be able to check using the other characters versus the tables in the link.

I found it easiest when using SK to make all of his values the same as a level one character, remove extra Prof's, reset HP, ST, THACO etc.. tehn change the level of the PC/NPC to one and change his XP to whatever you desire in SK or set it to zero and CluaConsole their XP to the desired amount. Then, when you load the edited save, you will have a level one character ready to level up in game.

OK, while I didn't get a chance to play last night, I did get a few minute to mess around with SK. This is either odd, or I'm doing something wrong.

As an 11th level fighter, Coran should have 7 proficiency points - the 4 he would get at character creation, and three more he would have earned on his way to level 11.

He actually only had 5 - three in "bows" and two in "short swords". I had no problem with the points in short swords, but it was odd that the other category was just "bows", not "long bows" and "short bows". Granted, in BG1, from where he was imported, there was no distinction between long and short bows, and the proficiency class was just "bows", with thieves being restricted from using anything other than a short bow.

So I open Coran up with SK. (And yes, it was so easy I don't know how I missed this.) I go to the proficiency tab, and there is no "bow" there anywhere - which I suppose makes sense because there is no such class in BG2. So I went ahead and gave him three proficiency points in long bows, and I added two points in daggers to get me to the seven I should have.

When I went back into the game, Coran had the new proficiencies I had added for long bows, but he also still has "bows". What it this linked to? When I opened up the old save game and checked his THAC0, it didn't appear that this "bows" category linked to either long or short bows - it was like he wasn't proficient in either category. So now he has 10 proficiency points on his character screen. 2 in short swords, 2 in daggers, 3 in long bows, and 3 in "bows".

It does appear that everything is calculating correctly with his THAC0 - his base THAC0 is 10 - which sounds spot on for an 11th level fighter - and his actual THAC0 is -2, which is also correct once you factor in bonuses for dexterity, 3 prof points (is 3 mastery?), and the bonus to hit on the bow and the arrows.

Well it sounds like the only issue is cosmetic so you could just leave it be. That would be the easy solution. The other solution might be to see if you eliminate all proficiencies can you get them to go away and then save and then go back and put in the proficiencies that you want?

I have noticed that some NPCs in the game have the old BG1 profs if you use control Q on non-party members and it is possible Coran is one of those and when they did the mod they modded the file in the game already which contained those proficiencies.

I thought those weren't implemented. You don't get the bonuses to saving throws for wisdom, or for being a dwarf either IIRC. Halflings don't get +1 with slings and darts either.
