Ok it's late here and I'm semi-asleep so I apologize for this post if it's already been asked. I looked around these forums but didn't find it about the stats for a DD. I know I asked about stats for a couple dif classes but I don't recall asking about what stats really make a dif with a Dragon Desciple?

None. Sorcs are stat independent. They get bonuses from various stats but none are required. Here is how I would view them though.

Str- Only used to carry items. The higher you have the better mule he will be. 10 is fine here though having higher will make things less annoying until you find things like bags of holding and the like.

Dex- Gives AC bonuses and ranged weapon accuracy which is nice particularly in BG1 and through most of BG2. In the expansion it is mostly useless. Either put a 10 or so here or an 18. The 18 will make you more survivable and probably more fun in the earlier game but it can take stat points from other abilities that boost you more in BG2 late game.

Con- Gives extra HP and this is useful even to the sorc. The DD does get bonuses to con so you don't have to start with the standard 16 con but if you do and you find other boosts to con (such as the manual of gainful exercise or certain trials etc) you can get natural regen which while not wholly required it is a nice boost. So start either with 16+ for regen later and more HP now or maximize your stat point returns and go with a 13 or 14 (I think you get three con bumps with the DD) or slightly lower if you are going to add the points from things like the manual in there.

Int- Only useful for lore and resisting mind flayer attacks. I do not think it is check for wish and limited wish but I do not know for sure. As for lore this can be circumvented by use of the identify spell which should be one of your first choices for your sorc. I would go no lower than 10 but it certainly does not need to be any higher unless it affects the wish spells.

Wisdom- Either you keep it at a 10 or you can go max. Wisdom affects the wish line of spells for sure so having a high wisdom can be a big boost if you like those spells. This is a high level boost though so if you want an investment that pays off in BG1 and most of SoA then spend points elsewhere.

Cha- Oddly despite being the main stat for 3e sorcs it does nothing for this one. Its only use is in dialogue situations so treat it like you would any other class. It is the true dump stat especially if you are going to wear the ring of human influence.

As for whether it is worth using this over a normal sorc I would say it has its plusses (fire resistance and potentially regen from high con) but the cost overshadows it by a little bit. However the cost isn't really noticeable as you get plenty of spells per day (I believe the totals are equal to a specialist or one more than the specialist wizard) and as far as I can tell you get the same number of spells known. They just need a small boost to make them trully worth it by optimization standards. Personally I like the idea of allowing them warrior con bonuses to HP which would reward having high con with the class that gives bonuses to it.

Thanks for the info. Going to bookmark this page :)
But what do you mean " So start either with 16+ for regen later"?

On CON 20 and higher your characters gain natural regeneration. At CON 20 it's something like +1 hp per turn (=per minute), which while not overly useful, will heal you when traveling between areas and while sleeping. The regeneration rate increases as CON increases further, but I'm not entirely sure by how much.

Yea the regen is mostly for out of combat resting or travel. It does get better as your con gets higher. It is in the 2e players handbook but really it never gets to the point where you notice it in combat. At 25 con or so I think it gets to the point where you can notice it while walking around (sort of like wearing the ring of regeneration).

Its most useful if you rest near death and you get attacked while sleeping. Normally you would be in trouble but with the regeneration you will likely be fully healed no matter how long it has been.

If really needed I can probably get the info but it likely won't mean much in the long run.

Also I forgot that for int another boost is that supposedly some dialogues only occur for really smart characters so that may be another reason to go for higher int.

When I made my last sorc I actually did go for high int, wis, and cha so that my character was the ultimate party leader. I had to drop my str really low to do it but I knew that I could still be an excellent caster with my stats.

I knew that @ con 25 you reg or at least the greater werewolf does. It's pretty darn fast too. I just assumed it was something the class got as one of their abilities even though it doesn't say anything about it :p

It's a part of their abilities, though I would suppose that the CON would also give additional bonuses to their regen. Trolls have natural regeneration as well, as part of their monster class.

The CON bonuses in BG are not as excessive as for instance in Planescape: Torment, where 25 CON regenerates so fast that it's even noticeable during combat.
