I feel like chants are more important then invocations, since their effects are continuous, and fully focused on buff's/debuffs.
the summons invocation grants are nice, but you can get plenty of figurines that allow you to summon right at the start of battle.

All priests get a talent that gives them a +10 accuracy bonus in two weapons. Unfortunately, with some priests, it's 2 melee weapons, while for others, it's one melee and one ranged weapon. For example, Durance, as a priest of Magran, gets +10 acc in Sword and Arquebus.

I personally always try to make as much use of those +10 acc bonus weapons as possible, because priests can use all the accuracy help they can get.

    From a previous thread:

In case of multiple battles leading to a boss fight I start with my default set then switch to my second set after I get my first invocation.
Sometimes what you want an invocation ASAP, sometimes you don't. This part has more to do with preparation rather than build.

i know they do, i like the magran priest for their +acc in arquebusses for that reason, but since nakia was playing a priest of berath, pallid hand is the one that applied :p

Yeah, you can switch things up according to your needs for a battle, though i still find myself rarely using invocations, especially once I've picked up some of the summoning figurines.

It kinda annoys me that some types of priests get stuck with 2 melee weapon receiving the +10 acc bonus, while other ones get a ranged and a melee option.

I know that some people think that priests in PoE should always be considered squishy, behind the lines casters, and as such, it sorta stinks that they don't get a ranged option in their deity's blessed weapons to help with this.

Magran is nice because you get the Arquebus, but almost any ranged option would be better than none. Wael is the only other deity that has a ranged option (and it's a rod). :(

I agree that from a versatility point of view it would be nice for all priest orders to get access to a talent giving +accuracy to botha melee and ranged weapon.
However, there are ways to equip and buil up your priest to become, while not a great tank, certainly adequate enough to be able to hold his own in melee range.

As far as priests of berath go, great swords are not a bad weapon at all. doigng both pierce and slashing damage (whichever gets least affected by enemy defenses gets applied) and assuming you have a character with high enough mechanics to find it, you'll be able to get your hands on tidefall, with it's superb enchantment and draining&wounding mods, giving you another edge in melee combat.

I won't say it's optimal or even that the priest will be carrying the party in any way, but it's still viable.
Sure, an island amuana priest of magran focusing on the arquebus is probably the most OP a priest can get, but a greatsword using priest of berath could just be as fun for RPing's sake.

Note that just because I wish that those divine +10 accuracy priest talents ranged and melee options, doesn't mean that I don't use the melee half of the pair. I often have or need Durance to get into melee, and thus use his sword +10 acc bonus. I prefer to have him casting or shooting, but do what needs doing. It's a shame that most other priest kits don't have that same array of options with their +10 divine acc bonus weapons. And it seems to me that this lack of a ranged option makes those other priest kits less desirable than Magran or even Wael.

Well, skaen is also quite good, getting accuracy bonuses to stiletto and clubs and their mini sneak attack, allowing you to use him in a similar way as a rogue.

I got the Pallid Hand and I also have the Justice Sword. My priest is holding up well so far. We are now in Defiance Bay at level 6. Haven't done much so I think the leveling is good. I pick up a ring for the Wizard that gives lvl 2 and 4 spell bonus. Think it is two extra spells at lvl 4. Got a figurine that summons a monster whose name I won't even try to spell. Took a look at the ring for the priest but right now I can't afford Have gear to sell so I'll see how much I have. Disposition rep is Benevolent = 1, Rational, honest and stoic each equal two.

I figure a priest of Berath would return souls to the wheel so that is what I have done at Caed Nua. Got extra prestige but security is low. and I got a nasty attack almost at the start of upgrading the Stronghold.

I am having fun with this playthrough because I really need to think about the role playing. I have to avoid passion and cruelty so my character is cold but intelligent, stoic and kind, also honest.

If I could have any additions to the game I think I would want more recognition of who your chosen deity is. Seems a bit strange to me that the game recognizes an aritocratic background but not who your god is. :)

Everyone believes the gods are really gods so shouldn't they be considered important?

I think it might come up a bit during raedric's hold, where you meet other priests of berath, and again in twin elms where you can pray to the gods, but other then that the order you choose is more for flavor then anything else.
I know that durance has some unique dialogue if you play a magran priest, and some npc's might mention your being a priest, but not much else.

I didn't get any reference to my PC being a priest but that may have been because of the dialogue option. I did get an aristocrat dialogue choice when speaking to Kolsc.

It's not like you miss out much, it;s just 1 line touching upon the fact that you are indeed a priest of berath before the dialogue reverts bag to the standard lines.

This goes for most classes really, i can only remember one or two instances where npc's touched upon my being a paladin on one of my previous characters.
Being a godlike gets mentioned a few more times, but nothing major that will change much about the game.
Ciphers probably get the most unique dialogue throughout the game, to a point where it's noticeable and not just scarcely found interjections.

I am finding the dialogue with Durance much more interesting this time. Either I am making better choices or something about my character build is more appealing to him. He does keep cutting me off though and telling me to wait for the next campfire. :) But the dialogue seems friendlier.

Think I can afford that priest ring now.

durance cutting you off happens no matter what class your PC is though, he did the same thing to my barbarian - i guess he's just not a big fan of sharing. :D

If you're going down the melee route, another item that might be nice for your priest are the shod-in-faith boots, since priests have pretty low deflection and will get hit with criticals quite often - shod in faith procs consecrated ground whenever you get hit by a critical - basically it creates a circle of endurance regeneration on the ground for you and your party.
if i remember corectly, you can buy it from the merchant in the dozens guild hall (after doing their 1st quest, but remember not to advance their second quest unless you want to actually throw your lot in with them, since it will lock you out of the doemenel/knights factions)

At level 8 in Act II and still have a few quests to do before closing that Chapter. Level 8 does make combat much easier due to all the bonus items and spells. I also have three figurines to use in difficult fights.

Quick summary of my PC: Nature godlike, aristocrat from Ratuaii (spelling?) Her family was embarrassed by her looks so she became a priestess of Berath and decide to do some exploring. She is currently using the sword Justice and acts as a support for Eder in melee fighting. Some people are calling this a offtank but I think that term is misleading but will probably use it.

I am playing her as a very logical person who despite being a priestess believes people should think for themselves and not blindly follow others.
