Different color circles?

What's with the different colored circles under the characters? What do they mean?

 

What do you mean? Green for the PCs, cyan for NPCs, red for the enemies, yellow for certain status effects (fear mostly), white for talking creatures.

It seems like you've played enough IE games to know that by now.

 

I have 1 green (main character), 1 yellow (my cleric/mage), 2 light pink (Yoshimo & Minsc) and 2 light blue (Aerie and Jahera). What's wrong with this picture. Lol.
I suppose the light blue ones could be considered white.

I'm in the Adventurer's Mart buying scrolls if that matters?


Ok now I have 4 white, me (green) & my cleric/mage (not Aerie) yellow

Honestly I never really thought anything about the circles in games before

 

Sounds like you have circle color = primary color option turned on. With that abomination selected, the colors mean absolutely nothing at all most of the time.

Edit: To turn it off and go back to meaningful colors, go to Options->Gameplay->Feedback->Colored Circles.

i actually like the primary color as circle color for my party members, helps me differentiate who is who.

 

Is that like face blindness except you can't tell game sprites apart?

 

To be fair, some characters' sprites look quite alike, depending on what armor you have on them. anomen and keldorn both use the human male fighter sprite, the only difference being their hair color. similarly my PC and edwin's sprites look quite alike as well at a glance.

 

And they're also using the same armor, same weapons, and same spell effects? That seems inefficient.

So what do the dif colors mean?

 

they're all party members. the color of the circle is decided by their main outfit color, which you choose at character creation - though you can allways change it from the inventory screen.
