My son is home for winter break. He comes home one day with a used copy of DAO for the PS3 from Gamestop. I found myself watching him play it on the tv, and going crazy criticizing his skill placements and tactics.

It forced me to reinstall this on my PC and now I am playing a rogue dwarf commoner.

In my opinion the PC version is much better than the PS3 version due to the mods.

Goodbye free time.

 

DA:O is definately the best part of the series in my opinion, and worth a replay once in a while
I've kept my copy installed on my computer all the time since it was released, since i have a ton of mods installed as well that i don't want to lose

 

Once I completed a run with the expansion, all DLCs, and all the requisite mods and fixpacks, I literally had no reason to play it again. The replay value is kinda meh.

Might also have something to do with the fact that I bugged the romances and successfully completed several of them, so I didn't need to see more of them.

 

DA:O definitely has that BG2 feel. Whenever I hear the main theme by Inon Zur I can't help but go over possible character build ideas in my head.

Just about to finish Lothering and moving on to the Broken Circle.

 

Strange, I never got that. I can't remember any of the music. The story and bad guys were boring and full of holes (even before I put them there). Most of the characters were forgettable, aside from maybe the companions of whom Morrigan is the only one who stuck with me (in no small part due to Claudia Black voicing her). The combat system was banal and lacking in depth.

It was supposed to be the spiritual successor to the BG series, but for me it largely fell flat and went further downhill after DA:O. I've never understood where people saw the appeal.

 

TIL. Kenneth doesn't like Star Wars or DA:O. Actually I am not sure what he likes.

 

I used to keep a "Things I Don't Hate" list. It was really short.

 

I listened to the soundtrack when I played the game. I got really sick of it. Probably if I had at least disabled the battle music it would've been merely background noise, and not aggravating.

Combat was even more aggravating, though, but then I despise the way they implemented the level scaling. For me, it made the game a chore to finish, and I uninstalled it afterwards as good riddance.

While BG was never really sophisticated in the story department either, DA:O was definitely nowhere even close to that.

As usual, the only thing that Bioware did well, were the companions. Morrigan did stick, but more for the poor animations and the charicaturish "evilness" that condemns any action that can be interpreted as good.
