    I disagree.
Why a Fighter/Cleric rather than just a Cleric?
    - Fighter allows you to get full benefit from the hight CON (+4 hp).
    - You get a better THAC0.

    Why not a Ranger/Cleric?
    - Only a half-elf can be a Cleric/Ranger. I'd rather be a dwarf.
    - Dual wielding isn't hard to get for non-Rangers. It just costs you some proficiency slots.

    Why be a Dwarf?
    - Good saves against magic and poison.
    - Bonus CON and it only costs you some CHA.
    - In AD&D rules, Dwarves also get -4 AC against giants and are +1 to hit some races. Does anybody know if this is implemented in SOA?

Please also remember - fighters (and Fighter/Clerics) are usually in the front rank and therefore unable to cast spells during melee. I always memorise spells that I need to cast either before or after battle. Most of my spells are healing, protection or divination types. I take very few battle-spells - I leave that to the wizards in the back row.

Also - cleric spells are much slower to cast than wizard spells. Many take a full found to cast so you are very vulnerable to getting hit and losing the spell during casting. Another reason to leave the battle-magic to the wizards.

No the -4 penalty to AC is not implemented in BG 2 at all. You need to play icewind dale to get a bonus for that, halfers get it, Im not sure if dwarves get it there. I think it is left out in SoA to prevent dwarves from becoming uber creatures.
