I install the game on E drive, dvd rom on G and cd burner on H.
How come it said Failed in (d:bad:Torment).I am using WindowXp sr2.

    Please Help

I can't remember seeing that problem... I had a odd problem where I couldn't access the game if the disc was in my e: drive -- you may want to try the play disc in the other drive. You may want to try starting the game from the autostart screen (put in the play disc, a screen will pop up, go to play if it's an option). Hopefully, somebody else with greater computer skills will help you out....

My only other thoughts are a full install (instruction are here -- but it may be tricky with the 2CD set) and then find a no cd cheat (which is illegal if used without a legitimate copy of PS:T). I don't even know if such a program exists, but it should only be used as a last resort.

    Thanks!

I try to install to another computer, It works! but the new computer won't.I change drive and install to D drive still got the same result.
The old computer has windows Xp without SP2, I think it must be the SP2.

    Anyone got any idea?

Yes, SP2 is known to cause problems with dozens of games.

d:bad:Torment\Source\chitin\ is where the Torment game was written (actually compiled) at the developer's computer, it has nothing to do with where you installed the game.

An assertion, simply said, checks for a certain value in the game with a constant value, if these two are not equal, an "assertion failed" is thrown and the game quits.
Normally the game developers should remove all the assertions from the game, but for whatever reason, they'd left it in.

Small chance the game would work properly with the assertions removed though.

I get the same 'line number 809' problem, and I don't think it's a problem with the SP2, since I don't think I have it on my computer. Also, I tried installing it on another computer which has windows ME, which wouldn't work with the same error. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

Well, you could try copying all the content from the CD to your HDD and then setting the correct path to them in Torment.ini. You should also consider one of those fix-packs (and no-fog in cities ;) ) for they might just solve the problem. Furthermore, try finding a crack for this game and replacing the .exe file with it.

Thanks for the suggestion, :) Wirhe, but I installed another game (temple of elemental evil) and think I'll play Torment after I finish that. I'll make sure to try out your suggestion when I go, thanks again!
