[IMG] I have heard tales of those bold enough to attempt a solo romp through IWD/HoW/ToL, but having played it with a party of 6 of Heart of Fury mode, I found the game quite challenging.

If you solo, there really can be only one choice: An elf F/MU/T. I think you need all those skills to even have a hope to survive. And you'll be spending most of your money on healing magicks. Others may have different opinions, but I think soloing through the IWD series is damn near impossible.

Hey Bel! Didn't we have this discussion before?

Soloing IWD is far from impossible. I've done it 3 times with a F/M/T. I found it to be actually easier than playing with a full party. Don't worry about leveling up, you'll do it very fast b/c all of the exp goes to your character. The first chapters may be a little challenging for you. I would reccomend.........SLIGHT SPOILERS:

Prof in Bows to start off....that way you can pick off the goblins and orcs in ch1 from a distance. I would also put some points in Pick Pocket, so when you get to Kuldahar you can steal some of the nifty items that some of the NPC's are carrying.

As far a healing, you don't really need a cleric. You can rest until healed in many areas of the game, and once you get a ring of regeneration, you won't need to worry about long rest periods at all.

Playing solo is GREAT. IMHO it gives the game a more personal feel. If you have any questions or problems please feel free to email me or post again on this board.

    HAVE FUN

[IMG] if my character is an elf f/mu/t do you have any combat suggestions to help me live? like spells or something that would help me defeat all the goblins and undead in the begining of the game?

You should do all of the subquests in ch1 to get as much exp. as possible. Prof. in bows to start out. Learn 1st. level MU spell Armor. It lasts for 12 hours, so you can cast it, memorise another spell, rest, and still be effected by it. Remember to move around alot...that is if you have a bow, try running away from monsters, and then turn and fire away, then run. Burning hands works well against groops of monsters(undead). Also try sleep against orcs. Once you get Mirror Image and Invisibility you should be good to go. Once you get Fire Ball you should be great. Once you get Sunfire (HOW) you should be unstopable.

I've dug this old thread up, rather that starting a new one. The reason being, i want to start a new game of plain IWD (NO expansions) with either a solo or 2 characters.

I was thinking, start with a fighter and dual to cleric at level 4. This way, get 3* in one of my weapons (great sword) and 2* in another (probably bow). Then when i dual, give 1* to missile weapons and 1 handed a melee weapon.

Do you rekon i could manage with this character??

If i need a second character, i want a decent mage, eg Necromancer. That way, i have magic missile, acid arrow & flame arrow (for the trolls) and some other decent spells.

    Would this be any good??

Don't put your proficience points in non-cleric weapons, if you are going to dual class your fighter to cleric, because you won't able to use non-cleric weapons. I did that mistake once. :(

If you want greatswords and bows, take mage. Thay can use both. :) BTW, because you have no expansions, pick up Conjurer specialist mage. Thay have almost all spells in the game (not divination spells)

And thanks for digging this topic. I have to try soloing too (maybe elven F/M/T, because I liked them in BG1) :D

[IMG] Cheers for pointing out not being able to use non-cleric weapons. When i solo'd a f/t in BG i used non-thief weapons and assumed i would be able to do the same with a cleric. Oh well, i only just started so can easily start over.

I didn't know about that class of mage being able to use nearly all spells. Thanks for that also!! ;)

ive soloed twice--the first time just a plain human fighter and it was so easy i got level 30 way before i even got up to Belhifet

and the second time i did it on the hardest difficulty (not HOF) and with a plain half elf druid and that was quite difficult

    hope that gives some idea

I once soloed with a thief but up until CH4 I quit, because it was getting way too hard.

I've soloed with a Firghter/druid and it awsome!
i got a high enough lvl to morph into a earth elemental and he still does damage as if he had my scimitar+3. i blew through IWD but i stoped before i got to easthaven and went back and did HoW. HoW was a bit difficult but i still creamed it.

IMO it is really hard to go trough the game without at least:
    - a thief (traps get really annoying as you go on)
    - a mage (magic is what tips the scale on your side when outnumbered)
    - a melee fighter (to take ful advantage of most magic items/armor)
    - and ideally a cleric or Paladin for healing..

..And since you get as much XP as if u had 2 characters while dual-classing, I'm not sure if soloing is really an advantage in that case.. why not use 2 different characters and develop their full potential..

[IMG] @Draggar: Coz if you use a multiclassed fighter, you can use armor when not using thief or mage skills. ;)
