[IMG] Is there a cap on the stats that one can get during charecter creation in IWD-HOW?
I have BG2 and routinely manage total stats of upto 91 with some of the kits there. But with IWD I have not managed anything above total of 84 till now. Does the fact that I create human fighters for dual classing later have anything to do with it?
    Thanks in advance.

Yep, it is very hard to get high rolls if the lowest stats are these:
    STR: 9
    DEX: 3
    CON: 3
    WIS: 3
    INT: 3
    CHA: 3

With a paladin you have higher ground stats and therefore higher rolls.

With a paladin you have sum total 57 granted. Ranger gives you 60. Too low scores are increased to meet the minimum requirement for a class without decreasing the other scores. So, if you would normally roll all twelves, you would have all twelves for a mage, fighter, cleric, thief or any combination thereof, but for example a paladin would get 13 STR, 13 WIS and 17 CHA instead, which gives nine points above the sum total rolled. However, it's not easier than normally to score anything above the minimum for your class.

    What role does Dexterity play?
Does it affect saving throws or does Constitution?
And why should my fighter be wise and intelligent (which they usually are, though not charming :) )
I will max the Con instead of Dex for my spellcasters if it does not affect them adversely.
    Thanks all!!

I think that high wisdom gives saving throw bonuses. Dexterity makes armor class better and gives bonuses on using ranged weapons. Spellcasters don't really need more than Con 16, because they don't get extra hit points after that score (only fighters, paladins and rangers do)

the leader of my party has these stats

    18/00 Str
    18 Dex
    18 Con
    3 Int
    5 Wis
    18 Cha

fighters don't need Int or Wis (unlike TNO in Planescape Torment)
i gave him 18 Cha, because Cha affects shop prices
about the 18/00, i rolled 20,30 times to achieve that (it takes some time, but the reward is great :) )

    @TheCursedRavager
There are some commonly followed rules of etiquette here which may or may not be listed in the FAQ, but have been drilled into me nontheless. You are violating one such, ie:
Do not bring back old posts unless you have something real important to add or think others would be interested.
    Here neither applies.

Also for your information your charectors stats suck (Mine have an average of 87). Everyone needs wisdom for the saving throws that it confers. You will find this guy being affected by mind spells a lot.
This was from a powergaming perspective. I have been cured of that to some extent now and my charectors now have min. stats of 8 in any disipline. You just wont meet 3int, 2char public in any world unless its filled with goblins.

I dont think minimum stats have anything to do with what you roll. Should be the other way around it seems in that case.
I mean, if you get nine more points as a paladin then it should seem they should be in the max count aswell. If they wouldn´t be counted in there shouldn´t really be a problem scoring over 100.

    So which stats do count?

Well, each class has some more and less important.

    Fighter types:
    Str - for damage.
Dex - AC and thac0 (for rangers)
    Con - Hit points.
Then I split the remaining points even between Int, Wis and Cha.

    Mages:
    Dex
    Int
    Wis
    Con
then more often than not I raise Str max and leave Cha as low as possible.

    Clerics:
    These are tricky.
But since I almost never use the Turn Undead ability I leave Cha as low as possible then Max out Str, Wis, Dex, Con and give the rest to Int.

    Thieves:
    Dex
    Str
    Con
    then it depends.
Seems like Cha would provide a pickpocket bonus.
Int and Wis would give you some bonuses to traps and locks. So in IWD I leave the Cha at 3 as usual and split it up between Int and Wis.

Does the saving throws get better depending on your stats? Or are they totally classbased?

It would seem that a high Con would improve your saving against poison. And your Wis would against mindspells and so on. This (I think) is how it works in IWD2 but not in IWD right?
