[IMG] So I finally got around to playing IWD but then the damnedest thing happened when I ran Dale Keeper. I've already emailed the creator of Dale Keeper btw.

I get this msg when I ran DK

    Can't find Chitin.key
Dale Keeper was unable to read the Icewind Dale resources. Dale Keeper must be able to find these files to work properly. Make sure the Installation Path has been set to the correct directory and restart Dale Keeper.

    Any thoughts?

was your copy of IWD running at the same time you ran dalekeeper? do you have IWD installed yet?

dalekeeper uses files from your IWD directory to work...if you don't have them or IWD is running (aka, it is using those same resources DK needs), then dalekeeper will definitely not work.

Oh good grief. I'll try to keep this civil as possible since your questions imply that I'm some sort of idiot. Can't help but feel a bit offended and annoyed at those questions.

Obviously IWD wasnt running, i have IWD installed
and I know DK uses IWD files

With responses like that you may not get much help around here. It's called 'shooting yourself in the foot.'

Did you 'Make sure the Installation Path has been set to the correct directory and restart Dale Keeper?' That seems pretty self-explanatory -- manually input the installation path using the settings menu item (try looking at the Dale Keeper website).

I even checked the directory and everything else for at least 20 minutes before deciding to post. My brother didnt have this problem on his computer back at his place.

I apologize for the curtness of my answer but come on. Obviously the game is installed and obviously DK is going to use the files of the game. Also, I think no one can be as careless to have a game running while have a game editor is on.

Naturally I'm going to feel a bit miffed. I'm sorry for being so blunt.

With DK running, look at the settings. Use the browse button to highlight the folder the IWD run file is in (it may already be correct, but do it anyway). Do whatever else the program requires for you to save the setting and quit. Restart DK and hopefully you're okay.

If not -- uninstall and reinstall DK.

By the way: Everyone has a brainfart now and then. You would not believe the number of questions that are cleared up by stating something that is seemingly a simple fix. Frustration has a way of blocking out common sense in everyone.

YOU DO NOT NEED DALE KEEPER TO PLAY ICEWIND DALE.

@baron 667. I think you are missing the point here. NCYPulpWriter is trying to use DaleKeeper, probably to modify characters or add stuff to the game, he's not trying to play IWD through DaleKeeper.

@NCYPulpWriter: this may sound silly but, did you check whether the Chitin.key was in your IWD folder? Corrupt installations happen. Apart from that, try installing DK again. If this doesn't go anywhere, get the one your brother installed and try that version. Your download of DK could also be corrupted.
