Just out of curiosity, what are the more powerful items you found in the OC (as opposed to bought from a merchant, or have made).

Recently I played the OC as a mage, and I had a remarcable find in Luskan: a +5 dagger, with +3 vampiric enhancement. It was by far the most valuable object I possesed at the time (its sell value vas of the order of 45K gold). I would expect to find such thing in the drow caves in HotU, but I think it is quite rare in OC. Strangely enough, I found it in a random chest in one of the houses of Luskan, not one of the boss ones (so i was not even in a dungeon, or such).

Aribeth's sword isn't too shabby... but what class can you be to wield it? Do normal, LG paladins get to have it, or is it only for fallen paladins and UMI rogues?

If I remember right, the sword Hope Slayer which you get from the succubus(which appears as a nymph) of former archmage of Luskan's Host Tower was worth more then 100K, but its only for lawful evil. If I remember right tho.

I never killed the succubus (that would be the act of a chaotic evil char, i would think, since she helps you with info). But 100K sure seems a lot :)

The Uthgard holy spear in Chap. III is also quite valuable, as are some of the rare items the smith makes (well, you have to pay money for those first). But it seems to me that the items you can find randomly in a dungeon are usually quite weak. Most of the weapons, armor and misc. items I used are bought (or quest rewards).

Hey, why would it be chaotic evil act? Im lawful good and I did for my allignment. She holds control over the archmage intending to use him for her own sinister plans... So killing her was a good thing, I guess. or perhaps it makes me chaotic good? Who knows! :)

I did a little digging through my inventory and it appears that most of my stuff isnt worth more then 30K. So 100K seems a bit much, I guess I saw 1 additional zero when selling the sword. (Pretty possible taking into consideration 6 hours of playing without a break :D )

I don't know, I gues just don't see how a good char can kill somebody which offers to help. Although I guess if you are lawful good and sort of dedicated to destroying evil, no matter what, it can be justified.

Also, as neutral good I will not kill chars which surrender, either. This makes it rather frustrating at places; I cannot help but wonder what nifty items that villain had :) (I think there are quite a lot of such weak-spined vilains in the OC; Meldanen, in first chapter, for example; some mage in the second, and so forth.)

Wait a sec, if a child murderer offers you help in exchange of his life, you should take his offer if ur good?! just because he offers help? if ur really good char first of all you should think of consequences, right? letting that succubus go away would make it dominate the archmage when he restores his position, and make Luskan be controled by demon... shouldnt a good person prevent that if he can? and whats the price: a lousy info... I say: refuse the help and kill the *****!

and about surrender, of course its ur business, but even as a neutral good dont you think you should end something you have started? if u took a bounty writ why would you stop if that cowardly dog begins to whip and begs you for mercy? dont you think it would be evil to let the bad guy go and lie to the bounty giver that you killed the bastard!

Im sorry if Im too harsh, I just got into speech :)

What alignment would a psychopath be? I've been thinking about healing them after they surrender and then killing them

Tavadi : spoken like a true lawful good :)

In my understanding, all the wizards in Luskan Tower are evil (especially the archmage, he's a lich, for god's sake :) ) And I figure the succubus is more like his pet, rather than his master - well, or at least his ally. So destroying evil would mean killing everybody in the Tower. I do not feel qualified for that :)

I use a kind of simple test for such things: if they do not try to harm me, they can live. Of course, one might argue that for the greater good ... blah blah. But who am I to judge? I think this is what means neutral good.

On the other hand, if they are clearly despicable (among the escaped convicts in chap II is one who boasts about murdering children, right) they do not get a second chance. The minotaur, however, I let go; he does not seem truly evil. And I do not find myself bound by accepting the bounty writ. I figure I just told the guy I'll help as best I can; not necessarily obey his laws.

    The Great Snook: ??? :)

Na I dont think all the ppl in Host Tower are evil, they are just a rival faction. Anyways Im not going to kill people just because I think they are evil, they should do something to deserve death and only then I come into action ;)
And succubus deserves death cuz shes DEMON! dealing with demons is bad already, not even talking about setting it free... or is that only my devotion as paladin? :) Btw if you talked to her with more attention you would noticed that she says something like that:
ME: You dont sound much like an advisor...
SUCCUBUS: And what if Im not? What if the archmage is just my puppet?

    and another phrase:
ME: Why would you seek out the archmage?
SUCCUBUS: I wont let so many years of my work to go in vain! Not when Im this close!

You know in my view ur more like chaotic neutral, but thats only my opinion :)
And one more... I had difficulty killing the minotaur too, but he made my choice easier cuz after speaking to him he didnt ask me for mercy no more, he said that he would be glad to be killed by a greater warrior now, than maybe poisoned later by another bounty hunter... I would have killed him anyway tho. :D

The Great Snook: Thats a real good idea! Heal them and then try to kill them before they manage to surrender! or even better! Paralyze them during the battle so that they cant talk! :D

Wait, why is being a demon so bad? I mean they are evil, but so are the drow. And if I remember correctly, whole planes in the Abyss are populated by demons. They have their own society, etc. I don't think they deserve to be killed on sight (aside of you being a pally :) )

Otherwise, I must admit I do not really remember much about the succubus in Luskan Tower. I sort of pegged her automatically as an ally of the archmage, and as such, somebody I do not have a problem with.

Well, anyhow, the topic in this thread is powerful items. From the lack of comments here, I think that my initial impression is true. That is, this game really lacks good find items. I think 90% of my equipment is stuff I bought. Compare this with games like BG.

Another somewhat nifty item I found was a shield of the Uthgard, with +2 bonus to strength. It was quite useless, though, since I used a two handed sword most of the game (Dagger of Chaos)

Yeah they have there own society of total evil. Demons are representation of absolute evil, they arent to be judged, they are to be killed on sight by everyone who considers himself on the good side. If Abyss could be exterminated fully it would be only better. and drow, they are somewhat other case, they are humanoid corrupted by evil, they can be saved though it is almost impossible, while demons cant, evil is their true and only form.

I agree we have gone somewhat offtopic, though it was interesting discussion :D I also agree shop items are more powerful, but anyways I only equip things I find, gives you somewhat extra adventurer taste... :)

Btw I got 1 newbie question what is OC? (from Topic: Powerful items in the OC)

Tavadi: well, I'll start a new thread on roleplaying (since I still have too many arguments I want to make :) ).
