I would like some opinions on making a good fighter.

He is currently a Human Fighter.

    17 str
    13 dex (14)Braces of dex+1
    16 con (17)Boots of Striding +1
    10 int
    10 wis
09 char (10) Some cloak added 1 char dont remember which)

Is it a must for a Warrior to have Char, int and wis?

I would like your feedback. Shuld Fighters only raise Heal,Discipline and parry? I wanted to put some points into Open Locks and Disable Traps so I can go solo and obtain the extra exp. I dont know if thats a good idea. Also My fav character has always been a Warrior but Im sure other classes are far better. I basically lvl him recommended in which I dont want to mess him up. But its also not the end of the world since I know that most servers you have to make a new char. But as far as single player what is best? Also some feedback on what skillz I may need for multi are thnx.

[IMG] Ok, for starters, you're posting on the forums of the largest NWN resource site (info-wise, anyway). Surf over to http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/NWN/index.php and educate yourself.

Now for the questions (oh boy...):

    1. If multiplayer is your game, then definitely NWN.

    2. You can always dump the items safely in the Temple/current HQ where you start, or any other container really. Just remember to take with you what's most valuable before the end of every chapter, because only what's on you transfers. Later in the game you find multiple bags of holding which, while not really big, will allow you to carry practically everything with you. But until you do, only keep the best stuff and sell the rest.

    3. Yes and yes, generally... Some servers allow you to play with the characters you make in the single player, but they're usually riddled with munchkins. Most role-play servers will require you to create a new char from scratch.

    4. Gems and body parts? I don't remember any body parts... Gems are usually only good for selling.

    5. You keep finding and being able to buy better items as you progress in the game.

    6. There aren't that many cheats, and they can be disabled on the server. "Hak pak" is an official term for a set of modifications to the game, but it doesn't mean "hack" in traditional sense (as cheat), but legit modification of some existing game content or adding altogether new content.

    7. Well, you can play with less rush in single player, but really, you can play the whole thing online if you want. After you finish single player, well... You said you're after multiplayer... You can connect to hundreds of multiplayer servers from the game start screen. Or you can download new fan-made modules and play those...

As for the gems and body parts, you might want to hang on to at least one of each. I don't want to spoil too much since you still seem to be early on in the game, but fire beetle's bellies, skeleton's knuckles, diamonds, and adamantite can all be put to good use later in the game. The bellies and knuckles are plentiful, so I wouldn't worry too much about them, but diamonds and especially adamantite can be rather hard to come by.

Just wanted to empasize that, as Tal said, most good online servers require you to create a new character on that server. If you find a server you really like, and it requires you to create a new char, your single player char will be wasted.

What I would do if I were you is start looking at the online games, and try to find some good servers. The game does have a level cap of 20, and by the time you finish the single player game you should be at least level 15. So even if you found a cool server that does accept imported characters, your single player char will be too high to play much anyway.

One thing to look for is a server with item restrictions on. Basically, you can create any item you want with the toolset, but it'll have level restrictions based on how powerful it is. Making sure you play on level restricted servers ensures that people don't have uber hacked items.

I carried that hand around forever and never found any use for it. There are a couple of things in the game that have no apparent purpose. The hand, the top... maybe a few others I can't think of right now.

Ty for the replys Again most helpful. One more thing Id like to ask is about a mod for banking. It says I can make a mod with chests so I can log on and bank all my items. I really think nwn shuld just make something like the dvine pool. SO you can store books and such even if a fee would apply. I mean its not realistic to me for someone to be able to carry 50 books. Hardly a real life task.

[IMG] Uh... I have a feeling you messed up here. You overwrote your original post with this new info. (Which is now posted twice in this post.) You should make a new topic whenever you ask a new question.

The best advice I can give you at this point is to forget the notion of "best" character or "best" class. Every character class has something to offer, otherwise they would not exist. The real key is finding your character's strength and exploiting it. That being said, on to the questions about your fighter.

What you have so far looks good to me. High intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are not necessary for a good fighter - let the paladins and rogues try to talk their way out of situations then step up if they fail. I generally keep those scores around 10 just so he can carry on a conversation.

Discipline is essential to avoid being knocked down, disarmed, or taunted. Heal is also invaluable at lower levels to help cure diseases or neutralise poisons. At higher levels, you will likely have items providing immunities. I rarely put any points into the parry skill because a.) I usually play non-human races and thus have fewer points to distribute, and 2.) because I never bother using it. Fighters generally don't have the dexterity necessary for successful parries and counter-attacks - and heavy armour will reduce the dexterity even if they do have it - and I would rather take the 10 points of damage and inflict 30 in return rather than sit back defensively. My fighters tend to be rather aggressive and impulsive.

Lastly, I wouldn't bother too much with Open Locks or Disable traps. They are not class skills and are "expensive" to acquire. I find a sharp axe to be faster and just as efficient as a set of lock picks in most situations. Since disarming traps is non-class and intelligence based, the best score you can hope for is 11 - you won't be disarming much. Further, the traps you could disarm will do so little damage you may as well just walk through them.

    Hope that helped somewhat.

I agree with Johnny with the disarm trap and pick lock. I usually use range weapon to bash chests with traps, if that fails, then the sword comes to play. Heal, likewise with Johnny, a few points won't hurt but too much might prove to be a waste. Unless you want to multiclass your char to a spell caster, I would not recommend concentration, maybe a few points if you want.

Personally, because of the average INT and CHR, I put a few points in persuade, even if it is a bit expensive. Persuade seems to come in handy for my fighter. That's because I prefer to use persuade than to lie in situations that offers these options. Also, there are some class specific quest that NPC's are reluctant to give you unless you persuade them to.

As a fighter, you generally want to give him/her the best heavy armor you can find. If this holds true to you, then forget hide in shadows and move silently, you're just be wasting points.

    Ty :)

This character atm has Parry 11 but My next character Ill try without it. So I reckon Just raise str till I max my level. I was thinking maybe like 15 dex but Im not sure. See I dont really know what 1 point of str od dex is valued at but I assume it helps alot considering Stat points are hard to come by. Also thanx for the help I feel alot better that Im not wasting my time with my fighter.

If you can get a dex of 18 or better, you begin to get a substantial bonus to your AC, so that may be recommended for a fighter. Definitely strength and constitution are important too. I'd say to take dex and con up until at least 16 a piece, then dump whatever is left into str.
