Yes another party thread but since no party is like any other (almost) I need to ask.

I finished BG 1 years ago (dont remember that much anymore, hence the question) and now Iam to play BG1 TotSC and SoA ToB with the same character. So I want to play with a party that works in all the games roleplayingwise (For example, you start with Minsc in SoA so I want to use Minsc in BG1 also).

    The party:
    Me (Elven Fighter)
    Minsc
    Coran
    Jaheira
    Yeslick
Imoen (dualed from thief to mage at 3rd level)

Note: Have I missed any character you start with in SoA?

Thank you for reading this far =)

Well obviously you need Dynaheir and Khalid. I mean they do start with you. In the opening movie anyway. That's the party the guys at Bioware sort of assumed you'd take your first time. That said, with your pc it'll leave you kind melee heavy. Not that that's a bad thing, melee is much more powerful in BG then it is in BG 2. Or maybe it's more accurate to say magic is less powerful.

Ah, ok.. I didnt remember that Dynaheir and Khalid are with you in the beginning of SoA.. Hmm, Ill have to think about this because I think this "assumed" party is pretty boring. Anyway, thanks for the info.

"Sorta." is a funny way of putting the state you find them in at the actual beginning of SoA :p

    The assumed party is:
    Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc, Dynaheir, Imoen
That makes you weak in the cleric section.
No choice if you want to stick to the story.
And you are supposed to meet Edwin, Viconia, Coran, Garrick, Tiax.

    My current party is:
    Khalid, Jaheira, Branwen, Garrick, Imoen

I'm still in chapter 3 with my current party: Imoen, PC(fighter/mage), Minsc, Branwen, Dynaheir & Xan. Party is doing well and we are currently searching a book for Ulcaster.

I thought my party is weak in cleric section because I rest only when my characters become tired. This is why I wanted Vampiric sword which I thought has the same effect as necromancy spells but the sword doesn't exist. I read all you have to do is bring Ulcaster idol and armor which he will exchange for sword. That didn't occur before I brought him his book and even after. I also installed sword coast and also nothing happened.

Has anybody succeded in retrieving that sword? I guess I'll have too dump Xan and get me a second cleric. Any other suggestion who would fit best in my current party except cleric?

I have got the sword before, you need the armour from the ruins under firewine bridge.

Errrr... Wouldn't recommend getting it though, it certainly won't help you in a Cleric sense.

Branwen is usually enough Cleric for me for the whole game, though I probably rest more often. You can find a Druid in Cloakwood, and a Cleric in the Cloakwood mines.

My next stop after collecting rewards for killing Bassilus will be Cloakwood and mines. And yes I rested only 3 times so far. That might sound crazy to many of you but I managed so far (mostly with ranged attacks) and carefully selected spells. I'll check both NPCs or I'll even pick up Ajantis although I really don't need another strong arm. Sixth char might change again in Baldur's Gate or I'll go with Xan all the way. I'm very limited here because of high rep (20).

A little harder fights so far were in Firewine bridge dungeons with all that flying fire arrows but few healing potions and arrows flying back and it was doable. If I would be playing it the first time that would definitly be different.

So once again about that sword. Might be that some other mod is required because I also checked item codes and there is none such item in orig. game. And I was there (in Ulcaster ruins) with armour from the Firewine bridge and idol from south of the Lighthouse.

Sorry, really can't remember what I had installed at the time but it couldn't have been more than Original game + TOTSC + possible patches. The only other Mods I've had were ease of use and the grey clan.

Trust me, you are better off giving the armour back to the ghost knight, at least you get some xp.

The sword does exist. If you do decide to get it, you won't be able to release the ghosts in the Firewine bride ruins. But go for it. It's a fun reward, and you should try it at least once.

And no, you don't need any mods. I've never even had any mods for BG 1.

    Really?

It never ceases to amaze me that there are still things about this game I don't know. I can't believe that there is a magical sword I never got before. You give it to Ulcaster's ghost? The armor you find in the Firewine ruins that I always give back to the ghosts located there?

It's an 'easter egg' in ToSC. The Vampire's Revenge bastard sword (SW1H19) does exactly the opposite of what u expect, it heals the hostiles n hurt the wielder.

I still could not get it ... but right now i don't care anymore ... I returned anicent armor and gave Ulcaster's ghost his book ... I'll keep idol until I get to Friendly Arm Inn where I store useless items or I'll return it to the dig. If only I could return Drizzt his swords after I'm done in Baldur's gate (Imoen stole both of them). One more thing happened since I installed ToSC. I got second pair of 'Boots of Stealth' in Ulcaster ruins.

More about Vampire's Revenge can be found here:

I used to wonder about this too. I forgot who you get the other pair from, but this pair (that you take off of a hobgoblin) is the pair that the thief Zhurlong(sp?) is waiting for in... the Red Sheaf Inn in Beregost iirc. In return, he gives you back the money he stole from you when you spoke to him to get the quest in the first place. Whatta turd.

Just watch out for that little Zhurlong, don't talk to him when you've fetched the shoes. At least not if your character value a pair of stealthboots more than some coins...

If you got two pairs of stealth boots there is no point in giving one pair away. You only need one scout (backstaber) because you usually don't have two thiefs in your party. And there are other better boots (speed, protection from ...). On my first plays of BG I always gave my boots to Zhurlong but this time I didn't even talk to him. Now I consider this a fair option.

Although second pair of boots surprised me, I forgot about telling you what happened in Firewine bridge dungeons. When I searched Lendarn's corpse I found second Cloudkill spell.

Some time ago I read about not getting any L4 spells before Baldur's Gate. I'm still in Ulcaster ruins and both Dynaheir and Xan leveled. That means they'll have to wait 5-10 areas until they can learn something new. So by the time I reach Baldur's Gate even my PC could cast L4 spells.
