I've been hit by some type of NCP dupe bug. I've seeing the NCP Lahl everywhere I go, and a lot of times more then one NCP on my screen will be Lahl. Is this something I should worry about or can I continue on with my current game? I really hope that I don't have to start over. This will be my 5th failed attempt in finishing the game since I got it when it was released. And I really don't have the time right now to start this game over and work my way to where I'm at currently. I'll probably end up just playing a different game all together.

I've never heard of an NPC named Lahl. Is he/she from a mod?

He's a hick in the town of Beregost that says nothing useful and then wanders off screen after you talk to him. Since then I've ran into him on every map I've been to including in the wilderness where there isn't suppose to be any NPCs.

I doubt he's part of a MOD because the only ones I'm running are ease of use and baldurdash.

I think it is a case of BioWare being lazy and using the same creature file over, not realising they gave the original a unique name. So it is a game bug, and doesn't really cause any problems.

Does it speak to you with same lines. If so, this is definately a bug.
If yes, you should get patch and see if that helps.

I don't know. I haven't talked to a clone of one for awhile now, so I can't remember if they do or not. All I know is I'm seeing them everywhere as seen in this screenshot.

I'm also running the 3CD version so it's already been patched to the lastest release.

Lahl is from Werewolf Island (part of TotSC). You can try the TotSC patch (third from the top), but it will only affect the areas you haven't been to in each game. (e.g. starting over would fix all of them)

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest reinstalling in this order:
    BG
    TotSC
    TotSC patch
    EoU and Balderdash

Like I said it is not a bug, it is BioWare being lazy. No need to reinstall. :)

Alright, thanks. I guess I'll try a reinstall since Bioware doesn't recommend that people with the Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga patch their games.

It is simply an oversight, not a bug - I've seen it happen in my own fully patched unmodded games. The same person being used repeatedly without BW remembering they'd named him.

It doesn't affect gameplay or any other quests/NPCs, it's an isolated issue and not worth worrying about.

Or you could say that Lahl was a popular name choice at that time as are real names when parents name their kids.

For instance when I was at the hospital I talked to two other new fathers and all of our daughters had the same name, but all different spelling.

 Lahl also turns out to be the name of not one, but two different farmers (w/ separate CREs) living next door to each other in Nashkel. Those lazy bums. :p

Not lazy, realistic. After all how many Mike's or Joe's are out there in the real world. Why not the same for the BG series. After a while you should run into some with the same name.

No I read what he said. I chose to reinstall though. I've learned that when it comes to bugs in PC games that it's better to get rid of them. No matter how harmless they can be. Since I've reinstalled and modded the game in the order that Felinoid recommended (I think I did the mods the other way around) I haven't seen a duped NPC anywhere.

The reinstall won't have changed anything, given that that's how BioWare made and shipped the game.

Like the OP said, Lahl or any generic NPC shouldn't be on that map. So it's a bug, not BioWare being lazy.

Oh, hmm. If he was on every map (and the poster wasn't just going about city maps, where he is commonly found) then it might have been a bug.
