Hmm...I've voted mostly neutral in this, as there are loads of heavy advantages and/or disadvantages either way you look at it. It would be different, interesting, but a bit boring too after a few years...and I wouldn't want to leave people and things behind.

Erm, this all raises a question. If we get Powerword: Reload, then why should we be careful at all? People could just rush to anything, kill any number of peasants, be labeled the most evil man there is, and then just use their Powerword.
You're cornered by ten goblins? Hell, just rush 'em, die and reload with the knowledge about something.
Also, that kind of power could very easily make you veeery powerful assassin. You just go to the building, memorise where everyone and everything is, get mashed, reload, walk in there and act with the knowledge about who will rush to you first and what he's going to do.

Well, that could be fun actually...

[IMG] Ah ! Ah ! Ah ! ... No, Goli, my good Dwarf, the Power Word, Reload is only a power, not a Christmas present ! ...

    — The ONLY power the Strange Mage gave, (on his wanting), to Harbour Boy first, and then to all others (if they want it !) is the ability to RESURRECT from the dead after a disaster which knock the character, right and flat, DEAD.

This ressurection pass by a very short Temporal Travel in the past, and the bad situation yet remains to be solved ! ...

The trap must be removed, the monsters are found again to be fighted, — and so on.
But you remember ALL, — even a very unpleasant death ! — , although you CAN CHANGE to a new strategy of actions. :hmm:

    • Note that the trauma of the pattern DEATH—TEMPORAL-TRAVEL— RISING—And-so-on, ... is very tiresome to the character, (the last thing the character would wish would be to re-start all the cycle for fun or experiences !).
By the way, the ressurected aventurer must SAVE against Death Magic, or lose permanently a constitution point ...

I'll just have to knock this mage down and bring him to the nearest ward for locked-in psychos.

A nice thing that you have the necessary wisdom to NOT try it !

If not, you would NOT be here to speak about this bad idea ! :p

Cool idea, tempting as it is, I would like to try it, really, but 7 years duration is...a bit too much! And what's worse, I calculated my own ability scores via a test found on the net, and let's say...I am slightly worse than a commoner in some respects! :shake: Which means I really can not become a 'tough' adventurer, a simple mageling maybe if I try very very hard, but even then I know low level mages do not last long in dangerous times... (though I can charm a few people, now that would be too cool...and tempting! I guess my alignment will quickly shift to evil though, if I start doing things I phantasied about! :good: )

I am not sure if I really want to encounter a huge spider(yuck!), a dread wolf (I can not even stand poppies!), a walking skeleton (mommy!) or a real ancient nasty dragon (GASP! :dies out of fear:) in real life. No no, I do not even want to meet kobolds! (they are smelly, scary, and nasty!)

I want to go home which is safe, and I can kill every monster easily on my PC! Without danger...pain...oh and the occasional risk of 'real' death. :o

[IMG] 1) — Mmm, come on, Silverstar, seven years, it's no so long. You shall be only 25 years old when you return on Terra (and, if you chose the option of sparing your family feelings, as a lot of persons decided here, you can turn back here only a minute after your start !) ;)

    2) I wish you could TELL ME WHAT is this silly internet test which DARE say to you that "your ability scores are of shabby or seedy sort" !!! ... and then, remove all your self-confidence and assurance ! :(
I want know that site, I want it ! :jawdrop:

( Anyway, remember that a fighter with strength of 9 with Gauntlets of Ogre Power has the SAME 18/100% strength that a big brute who has naturally 18/100% ... except the big brute is going to aging and lose his basic strength ! ) [ same idiocy for players who take Minsc just for his force, and throw aways the poor Khalid, with his ability of 15, without any deep thoughts ... ].

    3) You can become a good mage, if you are keeping YOU behind your party at low level : I insist that NO ONE in REAL Sword Coast is stupid enough to begin solo adventures !
[ If you are alone in wilderness, it's only because a disaster-type encounter has killed ALL your fellows, OR you are 31th level or more (and even in that case, it's rare !) ].

    4) For all your sexual phantasms with the Charm Personn spell, all is well for you, ... BUT...
... BUT remember that any very ugly nasty girl in any nasty village, only with a First Level Magic-user Power, CAN change YOU in a sweet and romantical mood wet packing-cloth, kneeling AND singing that she is a princess ! :p

Be cautious ; REAL difficulties in REAL Sword Coast are NOT the problems which were thought in the posts above by anyone, for now !

    5) Inversely, your fright << that your alignment "quickly shift to evil" if you do to the girls what you think with any Charm power >> is NOT FULLY RIGHT. Why ?
:hmm: Think : if, the morning, you rape 2 women with a Charm Person, and if, the afternoon, you save 3 from the teeth of an terrific monster ; at end, the evening, you are an hero, to have saved an ENTIRE family from a very horrid death, (the house beeing assaulted by a large group of huge spiders and their chief, an clever ettercap) ...
Then, you are not Lawful, OK, but, for the remainder ...
What are you ? Good ? Evil ? Neutral ?
True Neutral ? Chaotic Neutral ? Chaotic Good ? or ... "other" ? :alien:

It's easy to see the variations of your fame ; but, for alignment ...
[ and if you rape a woman that you have saved ? ... and if you save a woman that you have raped ? ]

Moral in REAL Sword Coast is near-NEVER moral on your earth, Terra ... :spin: :)

1)If all those seven years were 'virtual' years, then OK I may think about that! But will I be 7 years older when I come back? That would be quite a trauma...aging 7 years in one minute of real life! :p

2)Well, there are lots of quizes and tests around on the net, which can say you your ability scores! Here is one I found just yesterday.

    http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/terragf/back/xstattest.html

According to it, I have a STR of 6 (yuck, maybe I miscalculated something :o ), DEX of 10 (not good), CON 12 (this should be improved to gain +1 HP per level!), INT 15 (well, not perfect for being a mage! I was expecting an 18! ) WIS 11 (I am pretty DUMB!) and CHA 15 (I have absolutely no idea how this happened!)

So you see, if I become a mageling, I will have abysmal fighting skills, lowest HP, baddest AC and THAC0 around. Not ideal for an adventurer. AND that only one spell per day will not do much...unless I become a specialist, well I do not want to become an enchanter, conjurer would be cool but I need to improve my CON somehow first!

3)Point taken, but unfourtunate things can happen. Most low level mages do not survive to become arch-mages... :wail:

4)Ugh. Ofcourse, magic can be used against anyone! I must flee! :outta:

5)That sounds more like a Chaotic Neutral or 'Bastard-type' alignment. Definitely not my cup of tea! :shake: Sounds tempting though! AND, just so you know, I am NOT dreaming about raping women via charm person! :nono: Honest!

Why not? For 'rape' is a very violent and harmful action, which can break the charm. :good: (as if you have attacked the charmed individual)

[IMG] 1) Yes, you will be 7 years older when you will come back. It's fair ; you HAVE lived during these 7 years, isn't it ?

    2) This test is so silly that I am atonished :

    • Strength is much more taken as a "training for fighters" (percentage after 18 !). :nolike:
    • Constitution seems suspect to me. :(
    • Dexterity include mainly agility ! ... but little all sorts of hands-and-fingers minutness, punctilious (as necessary for "open locks" talent, for example) ; little nervous reactivity, also (necessary for "reaction adjustment" bonuses to surprise segments). :outta:
    • Intelligence is a try to value a so specialised kind of cleverness that it is easy ... to wonder on how high is intelligence of the author of the test ! In all cases, I say this to you, friend : it is NOT THAT SORT of intelligence which is used to understand MAGIC.
    • Wisdom is, here, a try to value an other kind of intelligence. But in no way wisdom ! :square:
    • Charisma is a little special. But I shall only say THAT : it is not sure that the great "names" of the history, (Cesar, Napoleon, Hitler, etc ... or immortal actors as Charlie Chaplin) with their innate ability to move huge crowds, would have made a GOOD RESULT at this test ... Don't you FEEL that ?!? Heh ... :heh:

    3) It is not obvious that the reason for which LITTLE numbers of low-level magic-users become Archmages IS THAT of no-surviving : when you earned NO experience [ by active sedentary research OR by killing monsters ], you NO MORE climb levels.
And there is MANY reasons to slow or stop self-improvement, alas, for MANY men ! Wizards are ALSO humans ! ...
... with most of the weakness of men. Alas. :sosad:

[ And, in an other spirit, I remind you that AD&D 2nd ed. rules forbid medium and high level spells to too weak intelligences ].

    4) YES ! :p ... I succeed to remember you that WOMEN ALSO master magic, and that YOU can become THE TARGET of a Charm Person ... :mommy:

    5) Ah ! No, Silvershield. Not you ! You are not going to become hypocritical. I hope there is only humour in your phrase : << For rape is a very violent and harmful action, which can break the charm as if you have attacked the charmed individual >> !
    — You know well, or you guess enough, that a charmed woman look at you as ... [ Players Handbook ©1978 ] : << ... any word or action ... wil be viewed in its most favorable way. >>
    — We are, then, very far of a "very violent and harmul action", since the woman is ready to make for you ALL that would do you HAPPY, [ except self-destruction but including sexual activity, obviously ].
    • Then, suggestion of sexual games don't have ANY chance to break the charm, above all if the proposition is gently made ...

The problem is, clearly, when the duration of the charm arrive to his end. [ PHB says : << One day to three months, according to intelligence,19 to 3 >> ].
    • What is the scene now ?
Reactions of women are probalbly wildly different.
    — The main number are yet under the little remains of the spell ; and they whom, in ordinary time, could have viewed the wizard as a "potential partner" can no react too bad ; but, for they whom could never have loved the wizard, or, the worst : could have viewed him as disgusting ! ... , then those women will be in a furious RAGE, and very inclined to denounce him to the cops-like stupid guys of the Flaming Fist, or, at least, to try to play to him a bad trick later ... ;)

It's not being a target that's the problem. It's whether you make your save or not. :p

Which begs another question: would those taking the trip be human?

Except if you make here 2nd degree humour, Kuemper, about the "human" wording ... :yum: :p :yum:

... then, YES, to reply to your question :

if YOU are human, it is YOU who are Plane-Shifted to the REAL Sword Coast, and, then YES, you arrive exactly so HUMAN than you were when you started your travel !!!
( For YOU, Kuemper, I have slights doubts ; if your clothes are torn during the teleport, and that YOU arrive strip stark naked, ... it was because you have 6 arms, finally ... ) :p

Well, first of all, I am Silverstar , the official, not Silvershield. Though we have our own Silvershield here, he is a nice enough guy too!

Other than that, I agree with you, I was only joking around. If I had that power to cast charm person, I would never use it for my personal pleasures against women. It will bug me to use hard-earned, respected and precious magic in such way. (though I have forgotten the original duration, one day to three months? COOL! :shake: )

Ofcourse, even wizards should live with the consequences of their actions. Or, when the charm duration ends, and if you are bored with the lass allready (which is more or less likely) cast a Flesh to Stone on her. She will stay beautiful and in top shape forever, this will save you from any trouble, and, you can always Stone to Flesh her if you miss her company. (in all likelihood!) Oh, by the by, welcome to the Chaotic Evil alignment! Revel in your wickedness!

I'm asking because there are midgets and dwarves. So, not everyone would become "human" as Aber-Toril defines it.

Our avatars define what we would become if we chose to go? Oh, now that could be fun! Felinoid, the Rakshasa, and myself, a marilith, would pwn the lot of you silly little gems! We would take you as tribute to our mighty red dragon leader, Taluntain! :hahaerr:

Now that is scary! I am a precious Beljuril, so please at least be nice to me! :aww:

No no, this does not make sense, I do not like to go to Sword Coast if I will become a beljuril, which will probably be stuffed in a chicken's gizzard! Yuck! :sosad:

    [IMG] @ Kuemper :
 ... Come on, Kuemper, you know as well as me that "DWARFS" and "DWARVES" are not the same persons. If you are a midget, your arrive in Abeir-Toril as a small girl-sized human, it's all ! :)

    • Exception is only if you deeply WANT, inside yourself, become a "racial dwarf " (with beard and all). Then I give you (your small height give you !) a 5% chance of muting shape in the process of Plane Shift.
It is VERY dangerous, because when you end the 7 years in Sword Coast, there is only 1% chance that you turn back human in your back-travel to Terra, and if you fail, then the shifting fails also, because on Earth, most humans don't believe in the existence of real Dwarf ... :skeptic: :(
NOT "ours", Kemper, not "ours" ... !
    — It was only for YOU. In fact, a joke :
a try to explain your general bad temper by the demoniac aspect of your avatar, (all Type V demons havn't the Marylith name ...).

    — But perhaps the cause of your abrupt temper is that YOU ARE a MIDGET on Earth, and you make from your status an unuseful complex : then your remedy is :
:hippy: Make Love, not war ! :p

    @ Silverstar :

    • Really I apologise for the error on your pseudonym. Clearly, it wasn't my intent to do an offence. (The problem is that I HAVE already spoken with Silvershield, a cool guy indeed, then I have mixed your 2 names, very involuntarily, I insist ! :o
Silverstar, your << stone Woman-item >> concept is tempting, but a little too evil for me !

... If I was FREE to leave run my instincts as in that world of Sword Coast, you can be sure that I am the kind of men to treat my so-calling "victims" VERY WELL after their "use", not by personal hypocrisis, but because I am a gentleman, and I want ALLBODY happy !
Your "stone concept" would be for me a shame, more : an impossibility. :(

Chaotic Neutral by selfishness, I can imagine it, because my instincts are powerful, and for metaphysical reasons. But I don't wish cause any pain to living beeings, (neither cause a non-life, as your stone statue !)
"Chaotic Bastard", as you said, perhaps, but Chaotic Evil, never ... :holy: :good:
