You know Tal, lately I've been wondering about sth. You see, after the avatars were introduced people were more often judged for what they posted; actually not for 'what' it was but for 'how long' it was. And the definition of 'spam' changed for some. While it used to mean -in my opinion - 'posting senseless, disturbing messages' it now leans towards 'posting short messages'. I don't know if I'm right here but that's how I feel.

So, if everyone is suspicious that others post what they post just to upgrade their avatars, then why can't we get to choose if we want an avatar or not? Don't get me wrong; I still think it's a clever idea and it's funny and all but I'd like to be free of that. I don't mean that afterwards we'd be free to post any little crap we wanted but I'd feel more comfortable to reply with 5 words instead of 50.

I know, I think in an unusual or maybe mistaken way, but that's how I feel about it. Don't shoot...

Stargazer, I don't feel the same way as you do. Long posts are not necessary all the time. Many people want to basis info, not someone's biography. Very long messages are boring.
So I think - I know - that short message that gets into a heart of problem is not and can't be caracterized as spamming.

But message that contains something that doesn't have any connection to the topic - that message I take as spam. That means I spam here sometimes (most times ;) ).

And of course, posting things only to get a new avatar I find ridiculous - I judge people here because of their messages, not avatars. You can be a newbie, but a kick ass newbie. Also you can be a veteran, but veteran that posts only idiotic stuff. That's linked to an old one "the looks doesn't make a man".

The key to communication is briefty.

*I've checked a dictionary Capstone. It's both. I heard this somewhere so I leave it the way it is.*

    Brevity. (sorry)

Since we're discussing this, thanks for the info about spamming. I asked about it a few days ago and I don't think anyone answered. Frankly, if brief messages were considered spamming, I'd be in trouble. But I don't think I post useless messages (do I), so I'm ok by that standard.

"Brevity is the soul of wit" - words spoken by a long-winded man. I know I'm not the only one here that has read Hamlet.

I think Tal should make a GIF file of a little Xvart with it's back turned and a vigorously shaking arm for Sniper's avatar. Heh, maybe he could have his head turned enough to see his eyes bugging out.

How difficult would it be to have a system that allowed, say, thirty avatars or so for any/everyone to chose from? All the while keeping the posts = experience idea. It just seems strange that we polymorph every level or two.

for my 2 cents worth, I think they're great. Any chance of personalization(colors perhaps) or animation?
