WEll, I just play around with Frontpage express, and eventually you get the hang of most of the stuff. If you're really stuck, try searching on google for tutorials.

Well i would gladly help you out but if you ask this kind of question it is better that you ask your dad because it is a long way to your own web page! But if you really want to make one, try with program: Front Page (it comes with Internet Explorer 5.0 and it's free). Its not the best but it is the easiest i found and you have usefull wizards that can help you in the start. After that you will probably want to try Dreamweaver, and it would be usefully to know how to use some graphic editor (Paint Shop Pro or Corel Photo Paint). After you make it, go to www.geocities.com or similar provider of free web space and you follow their instructions to put it on the web.

And Viola, your own web page :) !

[IMG] If you only want a basic web page i'd suggest cute html (search for it on google and you should be able to find a trial of some sort)
If your trying for a highly graphical page try flash. I've used version 5 and it's pretty easy to use and there is very little you can't do with it.

If you want a website and don't want to code, there are lots of tools out there (see above).
If you want to code, learn HTML and then Java Script. If you really want to go beyond that, learn Java.
You can skip C/C++, Pascal, Delphi, VB and (especially) Assembler. They are completely unnecessary for what you are trying to do.

I know HTML and I know Javascript and Java

I know how to make HTML pages and have made a few.

What do you reckon is the easiest program to use though?

If you already know html, javascript and java, why do you need someone to tell you how to make a website? Do you not know how to get it hosted or something?

It's good to know the code, but writing the entire site in the code will take forever.

I have only tried Frontpage and Dreamweaver, but have had no need to try any other text editor since both have been sufficient.

For the love of GOD don't use Geocities... they're outright terrible. Try and get a hold of someone you know with their own domain and have them give you space, that's what I did.

VBScript?! Java?! TurboPascal?!? VB?!?! Assembly?!?! (Only if you're really insane. :)) Heaven's no!! They're terrible!! Get some C++, Javascript, SQL, and Perl and you'll be set for life.

Java is terrible compared to C++? That is hilarious.

Well to build websites I use the following programs
Textpad(free download) i use this for all my javascript,HTML,DHTML,and PHP coding

photoshop for image editing... i dont recommend the corel image editing products, they just don't meet the standards that adobe has created with photoshop

Macromedia flash, i use this for the flash part of webpages, ie movies, intros, tutorials, and menus

and my secret tool is 3dstudiomax4, i use this for creating the background images, and other images for the webpage.

if you get into serious webpage creation learn some vb,Delphi, java to create programs that will auotmatically update you website
At this level you will also need to learn Rational Test, which is a testing program that checks databases, webpages, and programs for errors.

on a side note learn HEX, it one of the most important things to create proper web colors, and to change assembly code.

[IMG] If your planning to write it mostly in code (god knows why anyone would for anything even marginally complex, but if) and don't know hex for the colours download cute html (trial or full version) and it has a colour to hex converty thing. Even if you don't use the rest of the program the converter is very useful.

[IMG] No one who does any serious webmastering (that is, not just build a couple of pages and never update again, or update very little) would code his pages by hand. If for no other reason, it would take 5 times as long as if you used something like Dreamweaver. (Which I can recommend. It makes messy code, but it works.)

If I coded all of SP by hand there probably wouldn't be a quarter of what you now see here online at this point.

Well I use vim for all my coding and text stuff. I sometimes use emacs if I take a fancy to using weird key combinations :p

They both are very powerful editors.

Also, for windows, I find arachnophilia a very helpful and efficient tool. It's freeware to boot. :)

Actually if you start creating LARGE websites, using a databse would be the quickest way of doing things, On a side note, when I do website programming I do it all by hand, but I have created VB tools that will create the file, and add most of the info i need into the file, so all I have to do is add the content an I am done
