I've caught a few vague references to a Shadow Weave created by Shar. What exactly is this Shadow Weave?

Why is Mystra in such a huff and puff over it?

well, Shar is trying to put Mystra out of business. Imagine the vilest and wicked wizard available, who has the power to rival the chosen of mystra. Mystra might get sentimental and lock the door to the weave for the evil wizard, but alas! He doesn't need it, since he use the shadow weave. Shar will be sit overjoyed watching her little pet super villain smack some do-gooder legend butt.
    :)

Basicly it just means that Mystra doesn't have monopoly on magic anymore. Also where the weave might not work (dead magic zone), the shadow weave might if it's not dead magic for that too.
It's like two layers, butter and cheese for instance. The cheese got holes so cheese-weave casters can't cast there, but butter-weave casters can.

In short, the shadow weave is a brilliant idea, although you also get insane over time from using it, unless Shar protects you from that side effect.

I've read that the shadow weave is created from the empty space between the weave. It corrupts the mind, apperently, and regular weave casters have a hard time identifying the shadow weave and using it and stuff.

Haha the Dark Goddess rules all, I am the one who rivals the power of the chosen of the harlot goddess of magic! The shadow weave is much better than the regular weave because it isn't affected by dead magic areas and regular weave casters don't understand it.

It's just a seperate weave, in a way. This one dominated by shar.

Since it's all shadowy it's not so good for manipulating matter, so evocations and transmutations cast from the shadow weave are weaker. However, on the flip side, necromancy, illusion, and enchantment spells are more powerful.

As weave users find it hard to identify or counter shadow weave spells, so do users of the shadow weave become more and more detached from the weave and therefore have trouble with weave spells.

Lastly, it is a little disturbing to the mortal mind. Therefore, without the blessing of shar a shadow weave user will lose a bit of thier mind from learning its secrets.
