If you really want an item that you can't afford, but you've done everything in the game that you can, and thus have no means of getting extra cash, is it cheesy to rest for a couple of weeks straight so that your stronghold generates enough cash for you to buy the item?

    [IMG] No.

You might want to kill some nobles though, they are supposed to have lots of cash.

No, because you can just say that you group go and do everyday things for the time you are sleeping, but you press the sleep button so the computer don't have to be on all day.

No cheese, you and your party could just be taking a break from the rigors of adventuring. Even great heroes need a vacation sometime. :)

Not cheesy but really questionable. Are you letting Imoen rot in Spellhold under Irenicus' less than caring demeanour just to get a little extra spending cash?

It's not cheesy; you just aren't roleplaying -or even powergaming. In this case, you should get back to first-person shooters. ;)

No. I've done everything except Suldenesselar. I screwed up in making Crom Fayr. I went to Cromwell, and the only two upgradable items I hadn't made yet were the Wave halberd and Crom Fayr. I had 16,000 gold at the time. I intended to make Crom Fayr before going to Suldenesselar, and skipping Wave, as I don't have anyone who uses Halberds anyway. Needless to say, I told him to make the wave. Stupidly, I didn't realize I told him to make the Wave, and I quicksaved as soon as he was done with the process. Now, I have a Wave that no one uses, and I'm about 4,000 gp short to get Crom Fayr. So, I went to my thief stronghold next door, put everyone on the hardest possible assignments, in hopes of getting enough gold in 5-10 days to buy it.

If you haven't already emptied the pockets of everyone in the city, you could try pickpocketing the guards and nobles in the Promenade. They sometimes have high-level mage scrolls which you could then sell for a few grand. I don't think it's cheesy when you steal something and sell it once, without stealing it right back.

Do what I do. Chug some potions of master theivery, steal from a shopkeeper or two every item you can, then take them to a fence. Voila, instant cash, and nothing a real thief wouldn't do. :money:

You could always just sell some of the stuff you don't need. Like Wave, for instance.

I think you can only save the Wave for a couple grand. Stupid really. I think that combined items should be worth more than what you paid to have them forged.

If you really, really want money and aren't averse to a little wanton bloodshed, you could always cast a few spells in the city, wait for the cowled enforcers to show up then whack them. If you also some Amnish legionnaries and centurions, even better. The soldiers drop full plate armour which can be sold for 1800 gold and the mages drop spell scrolls which are generally worth at least a 1000 gold. A portion of this gold can bring your reputation up to what it was before you went on your killing spree and the remainder will be more than enough to have Crom Faeyr forged.

I think I'll wait it out. My party consists of all good characters, and I am really averse to killing just for the sake of killing. Even though I run the thieves guild, I really limit the more questionable activities. I don't import slaves, I don't tell my thieves to use blackjacks to hurt people, I don't tell the extortionist to back up their threats with actual force, etc. I'm sort of the nicest type guildmaster theif you could be. So going on a killing spree is certainly not something I want to do - not to mention I'm sure that Anomen and Keldorn would throw a fit - I can't see two members of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart killing people.

Well, I'll probably get nailed for suggesting this, but since you made the Wave by accident, and you seem to imply that you would have reloaded a saved game if you had one (I would have done the same thing), why not just drop the Wave, console in enough gold to give you your 16,000 back, and pretend that you never made the mistake in the first place? Basically the same results as doing a reload.

Didn't you have an autosave when you entered the docks? It's probably gone now since you entered your stronghold.

I'm with you there. But I think the Coweled Wizards are a different story. Killing them is payback for their kidnapping and abusing so many people, including Imoen. It's also self-defense, since they try to kill you simply for casting a simple spell like infravision.

Since you have a thieving stronghold in the docks, it makes sense to set traps in front of it for defense purposes, right? Set a few traps, then cast an innocuous spell -- nothing harmful, and nothing that should warrant your death. One legitimate way to change the law is to break it and then challenge it in the courts, right? Since the wizards don't judge fairly (they try to kill you without question), you don't have to lift a finger. They kill themselves by wrongly attacking you and triggering your traps. If they leave some loot behind for you, consider it punitive damages.

[IMG] How many parties do you have going on anyway? A couiple of weeks ago you were taking an evil half-orc barbarian through the series. You must play really fast.

Why not enter Suldanessalar, get the elven chainmail and other treasures that are all over the place, then leave for the docks, sell the treasures, and make Crom?

You can leave Suldanessalar after you enter it.

Just one - I had the evil half-orc barbarian going on into BG2, and then I encountered some major computer probelms. Formatting, reinstalling, etc. So the evil half-orc barbarian was no more. Shortly thereafter, Tal asked me to do a review of the Solaufien mod, so I decided to take a good party along, and there you have it.

Geez - I suppose you could. Once you have the Lanthorn, it becomes visible again. I never thought of that - once I was there I stayed there.

[IMG] There is a post in the SoA forum about Wyvern heads which reminded me that it would be a good way to make money. I'm sure that you have a mage that can memorize many Wyvern Calls. Each time you kill one, you can sell its head for 500 gp.
