BG2 vs. NWN... BG2 is better, isn't it?

Man you can be DM. What else can you wish for. That is all NWN is about. And Frankly, lets get somthing new to chew on for a while. After finishing BG2 and ToB who knows how many times i think that NWN will bring much to the online community. I know it hurts but BG2 is on its last breath.

Yes, I'm one of those people that has played through BG2 over a dozen times, but you can't easily design your own modules and such for it.

[IMG] Let's re-do that shall we?

    Categories
    Graphics: NWN
    Story: BG2 (NWN)
    Sound:BG2 (NWN anyday!)
    Characters: BG2
Campaign: BG2 (NWW- You're forgetting the ability to make your own campaigns!)
    Multiplay: NWN
Cost: BG2 (NWN- I picked mine up for £34.99, about $40-$45)
    Quests amount: BG2 (NWN- Toolset)
    Quest quality: BG2 (NWN- Toolset)
Alignment(styles of play): BG2 (NWN- easily!)

Right then, we're sorted. The only thing NWN lacks is interesting characters. But what you are forgetting my friend is that Nearly everything in NWN is customisable.
Own campaigns/quests/storylines can be made, only being limited by your own imagination.
And if you think there isn't enough options regarding that, then please remember that People can re-do things. New Tileset's (settings, such as Rural, City, Dungeon) can be custom-made by re-skinning, new sounds, graphics, models etc can be made.

You are simply looking at the Single-Player campaign here, not the big picture. And what you also need to remember, is that the NWN Single-Player Game was an Added Bonus, not something the team started off on.
    :)

    I agree:

You are just having trouble accepting the fact that we have to let go. The era of BG2 is over. I know it happens to me all the time. I remember when Empire Earth came out and i could not let go off Age of Empires 2. NWN is definetly better. BG2 was good while it lasted. But how boring would life get if there were no changes for the better.

[IMG] I don't think graphics go to NWN all that easily. Some graphics are nicer in BG2 and some are nicer in NWN.
    A couple of examples:
    * When you zoom in even a little bit in NWN you see lots of ugly edges on everyone. * A thing I like with the BG2 graphics is the details, which you can't get in NWN.

Have you seen the Screenshot of the Week? That's fully zoomed in at 1024x768, and I think it looks good.

I completely agree with Gopher, there's now way in hell that BG2 is better. You're just going off the single player campaign. Remember the toolset means unlimited play with this, everybody's constantley making new modules so you're never bored. Almost everything is better.
BG2 has fallen, LONG LIVE NEVERWINTER NIGHTS! :rolling:  :hippy: :shake: :D

I still stand by all my rating although I have been informed that Multiplay stuff in NWN is really good. Well, that is nice. If you don't play multiplay it does you no good. Some have said that it was originally only multiplayer. I wouldn't have bought it then. I only put the multiplay category in their so that NWN would get a couple of positives. I doubt I will ever take the time to even look at making a dungeon and if it's not sanctioned by an official download site, I won't be downloading anyone elses module either. So the multiplay means nothing to me. Obviously most of the categories should have been sorted into 2 other categories, Campaign and Multiplay.

BG2 must have been pretty replayable if you played it over a dozen times.

Every download site is sanctioned as long as they follow the EULA. Unless you have a slow connection why wouldn't you take any module that others have said is good? There are plenty of talented people out there, and the ease of the toolset makes it likely many great modules will be made.

Bg2 "was" a great game but I think it's time is over and I have to prefer NWN.

I never understood how people can say NWN's graphics are crap. Maybe not here, but I hear it a lot at the offical boards. Maybe its cause I got a GeForce 4 and my resolution is way the hell up there.

  13. Actually, I have been playing NWN for .. hours lately but sometimes I want to complete BG2 just to say goodbye. And I think the sounds are much better in BG2 than in NWN. The music just doesn't make the right .. atmosphere as it did in BG2.

Oh cruel wordld! Why must you discard our loyal Baldurs' Gate in exchange for a game that is infinitly better?!?

I can't uninstall BG2 even if I wanted - I've lost three of the CDs so I wouldn't be able to install it again ;)

poor bg2, being bagged in its own forum...

i actually havent played NWN but i have heard it is quite good and ive seen all the screenshots and whatnot, but i have to say that it is purely a matter of personal preference. it depends on whether you are looking at the single player aspect of the game or the other attributes to it, and also whether you like simple hacknslash, puzzle quests or a good mix. i personally favour bg2. the essence of the gameplay and expanse of the world is fantastic.

The reason people bash Neverwinter Nights' graphics is because if we compare them to Morrowind's they suck. Plain and simeple. To be frank, though, I really hate Morrowind because of the fact that you need to have a super computer in order to play the darn thing.

Sometimes I wonder what are the game designers smoking when they make their games. Do they think that we are rich enough to afford buying a new computer or video card every time a new game comes out? Just look at Doom 3, the programmers claim that no video card right now can run the beast. Yeah, sure, I can get limitless amounts of money from my pockets.

Anyway, and back to the topic, I still don't own my personal copy of NWN, but so far and judging from what I've seen the game seems good enough. Being one of those that has gone dozens upon dozens of times through BG2 and ToB, I'm really drooling over the ability to make your own dungeons. The only thing that most people forget, though, is that you can't make dungeons for yourself, for the obvious reason that you know everything and then the game becomes boring.

  18. BG2 will forever stay in us as one of the best game's.But it's outdated copmered to NWN.NWN is alot better in almost all the feature's that there are so I am going to agree with most and say that NWN is better than BG2.

BG2 was great and was the ultimate CRPG some 2 years ago, but now NWN has taken over and has perfected the CRPG, simple as that.

[IMG] Well, I believe that you like more the one or the other depending on what you plan to play.

If you have a fast connection you can use your PC as server and you'll be the DM in a module you have created to play with your friends. Or even better you can play it on ALFA.

If you don't want the multiplayer part then Baldur's Gate is sure a better game.

Gopher stated it exactly as it is:
Single player in NWN is an Added Bonus
