Picture this...a kobold...an unarmed mage...The mage punches the kobold..it falls over...it gets up...it is punched ...it falls over...this goes on for sometime...i get bored and run away ...this is quite humiliating but the blasted kobold wouldn't give up ... surely this is a glitch? Has it happened to anyone else ?

    2 questions -

    1) have you been drinking?

    2) why was the mage unarmed? you should get shar-teel, minsc, khalid et al. to hack it into tiny pieces for you.

Well, as I understand it, (mind you this comes from PnP D&D 3rd edition, not bg....but I think the points the same), punching inflicts subdual damage. Subdual damage can't kill you, it can only knock you out. Hence the kobold only gets knocked out, revives, gets up, and gets punched out again. If you're interested in killing a knocked out kobold, stab it with a dagger, whack it with a stick, or cast a spell on it to kill it.

And somehow I don't think topics such as this will endure you to the site's owner or his mightly *snicker-sorry couldn't resist* dragon servants who patrol these boards.

you love me ...you really love me

You have re-awakened my respect for life in your so kind and friendly attacks on my pride and genuine ignorance.

but surely each time you hit the kobold, it loses 2or 3 hp and it doesn't have 30/40 hp so it should just die?

Would bashing with the shield have the same effect of fist hitting (only slightlty more powerful I guess)?

I'm pretty sure shield bashing isn't subdual damage; it's regular damage. Same goes for smacking someone with a gauntlet I believe. Both should be able to kill someone.

I would guess that a big nasty ogre has probably more strength than 20. He should be able to kill with his fists. Ogrillions only use their fists, don't they?

*shrugs* I have no idea about monsters. I'm sure their damge is for real if they use unarmed combat as their main attack. Kinda like I monk I guess (well not really but, it's the best example I could muster this late :p)
