I have been trying to keep my IA stuff neatly in it's own post, but I can't apparently reply yet after a post I made yesterday. And my last post in the other thread is not one that I care to put an addendum onto (defeating judgement day battle deserves it's own dedicated post IMO).

I'm currently attempting Yaga Shura, and my first real problem is that there are so many enemies coming onto the screen that my FPS is slowing to a crawl. My PC is only around 2 years old with 2GB of RAM, should be more than enough to run BG2!!!!

More or less regardless of what I do I end up with too many foes on the screen. I get the impression that the incoming soldiers are infinite in supply.

Do I need to buy a new PC to win this fight with half way reasonable performance?? Anyone want to share a tip or two on how to get through this battle?

I don't mind replay a battle 5, 6, 7 times, but I'm not one of those with patience/time enough to go at it for 20+ attempts. My second son will be born in a few weeks.... trying to wrap up before then.

Wow - there must be a ****load of them.
The only thing I can suggest is running BGConfig.exe in the game directory and disable everything like 3D accelleration, shadows, large static animations, brightening, transparency, casting glows etc. Upping the cache size and lowering the resolution might help too.

So should we all defect to here? I'll probably be able to post more frequently after my last exam on Monday, so hopefully you wont be limited by the no concurrent posts in a 24hr period rule again.

I wouldn't put it past Sikret :D , there's an infinite number of firegiants visible from Saradush in the vanilla game that you can harvest for xp but they are mysteriously absent from the battle field. Also there are several references to there being a seemingly infinite/limitless/overwhelming number of Yaga Shuras men, so I guess this fits in better with the story than the handful of guys you fight in the vanilla battle.

Currently I have 11 giants and around 25 non giants attacking on my screen-- so 36 enemies and my party.

All of my guys are getting knocked back and end up getting trapped behind a whole bunch of them. I keep them alive as long as I can, use every resource I've got, but eventually they die.

I can usually get Yaga Shura to injured, then he cast's hardiness and apparently regenerates faster than I'm able to damage him. And while that's going on, my screen fills with enemies, even if I kill them, more replace them almost immediately.

Another thing that's odd is that Anomen's hammer of thor records damage, but often Yaga Shura remains at "not injured" even though I'm damaging him. Does that mean the hammer is healing him possibly?

Anyhow, the hammer is the least of my worries. I may have well met my match with this battle. Been at it ever since I came home from work (wife and son are out of town for a week). No hope in sight at this point, since I couldn't get my guys next to Yaga Shura if I wanted to. My three survivors are each pinned against walls surrounded by way too many enemies.

I guess it could be that Yaga Shura is indeed the better Bhaalspawn. :(

EDIT: it seems like the only way to win is to take out Yaga Shura early, but I just can't seem to do that at all. I'm trying tons of different spells (including imprisonment), but no, alas, nothing is working for me. I'm already WAAAAAY over my quota what I feel is reasonable to get through a battle (oh, and I lowered diff to novice a long time ago). So unless someone has a nifty pointer or two, this may have to represent the end of my IA career. There's nothing else for me to do in the game at this point, since ToB is pretty linear.

Ah well, perhaps it's for the best. Wife and son are back tomorrow, and I'll be less distracted with my game "completed."

First of all congratulations for winning the Demon Prince battle ;) .
The battle against Yagashura is easier so I think it's just a matter of time and use of different tactics to defeat him.

IIRC the enemies that spawn are not infinite, they are just too many. And probably their number is the same in the original game but of course improved.

Go on the bridge first, but before meeting Yagashura return back and start killing the enemies on the right side of the map. Kill all of them before passing the bridge and meet Yagashura.
    It will make things easier.

Also you can't save the game while enemies are around, but the autosave for leaving the area works fine ;)

When you fight him read carefully the battle text. If he uses Hardiness his physical resistance will be >100% so don't attack him in melee. Use Breach on him first (removes Hardiness).
I am not sure but IIRC his ph. resistance drops as the time passes.
And of course don't use any fire damaging spells on him (fire dmg heals him).

PS: About any performance problems take a look in this thread.

Okay, well, wow. I never would have thought Breach would remove hardiness, since hardiness isn't a magical ability (it's the ability of a veteran, hardened warrior). Learn something new everyday, they say.

That was the ticket I needed. Yaga Shura is dead now. Thanks for the tips thetruth!

Nah - in the Vanilla game there's like Yaga Sura, two fire giants and half a dozen humans (ie. the battlefield is conspicuously bare)- not the 25 or so Marceror is talking about.

    Good onya!

Yeah, actually I'm pretty sure there are infinite enemies. In one of my attempts I'm sure that I took out well over 100 of Yaga Shura's army, and I always had 11 giants and 20 - 25 non giants (archers, assasssins, lieutenants, aerial servants, etc).

Killing Yaga Shura for me was all about timing. Getting all of my melee party members to him at the same time and getting WW/GWW up at the same time, then just pounding him waiting for the moment he invokes hardiness. I have to redirect my guys immediately, or it seems that I actually heal yaga shura. From there it was just a matter of breaching asa(humanly)p. Yaga seems to reinvoke hardiness every single round, so I just tried to time it so he was getting dispelled more or less immediately. I don't think I drank a single cure potion in the final battle because it was fast enough that all of my party's defenses were still up.

I still find it odd that hardiness can be removed with breach, but hey, I'll take it :) .

I guess your attacks start to heal him when he has Hardiness on because it somehow raises the physical resistance over 100%.

Yeah, odd how that only seems to work for enemies. I often have fire resistance over 100, for example, and I can't say that I've ever been healed by fire. Or maybe I have, and just haven't noticed.

Well, it should heal. Perhaps it just doesn't report it and it's so little you don't notice?

normally it should heal you... Well that was what I used to believe back when I play. I boosted fire resistance on Keldorn with red dragon armor fire resistance ring and helmet it went over 110 and it did healed him. Not much of course... 10% of absorb is huge in term of obtaining it and yet it doesnt heal very much ( 60 fire dmg => only 6 healing -_-')

Yeah, it works - I had this awesome plan to use the amunator squares in the Shadow lords ruins to heal my party after having difficulty with a bone golem - i got my fire resistance up to ~140-150iirc and it did heal me....slightly. Anyway, usually it is significant enough to be worth it (ie a healing spell would do you better). With enemies you're consistently dealing a hell of a lot more damage than what your average character ever receives. I mean if Yaga Shura has a couple of hundred hit points you probably need to deal around 1000 damage before he carcs it (after you factor in healing and resistances). Also if you do 5 damage to a creature with 80resistance then you have probably done around 25 damage (before resistances), so if the creature bumped his resistance up to 150, then he'd be healed 12-13 hp (ie. he'd be healed at a about 2-3 times faster that what he'd be damaged at)
