I've been searching for quite some time now on the subject of a fighter/mage/thief's special abilities. Here is the problem:

I want to be able to access the *mage's* special abilities, including the exclusive level 9 spells. So far, I'm only getting the figher and thief's abilities on my character. I know that it's not actually supposed to be giving all three classes' special abilities without the xp cap remover, but I have downloaded the "safe" xp cap remover as well as the file in Baldurdash that supposedly fixes this issue (I also tried a few others from this site). I've tried different patches and I've also searched old threads, but none seem to give a solid answer for this specific problem (I can get the extra 6, 7, and 8 spell slots to work, just not the lvl 9 spells).

There should be a fix for this... Me not going to learn any REPLACE commands today...

Well, at least the safe xpcap remover is good...

You need to edit that HLA abbr. file, and set it to show a new 2da for a F/M/T, then you copy the 2da for a F/M or a M/T and adjust it to what you like (Remember that you can have top of 24 HLA's to choose from), or just set it to check that M/T or F/M HLA 2da file for F/M/T. Download NearInfinity.

Can you cast level 9 spells? If you can't, you can't select level 10 spells as HLAs.

    EDIT:

Remembered it! It's Luabbr.2da! Just open it and change the 2da abbr for the F/M/T to the abbr of M/T or T/M (Which one do you like more?).

    @srdax

I would prefer your opinion more as a silent one, not just a humble one. It is a annoying opinion.
Modding is NOT cheating. This is a annoying thing when you have XPcap removers, so i am telling how to fix it. When you use non-modded ToB, having F/T HLA's at a F/M/T is logical, because they can't cast level 9 or 10 spells. But, there are some people who like to try play BG2 solo.
And when you play solo, you may meet the XPcap at underdark.

[IMG] What NPCs are for? Why you have to be 3 clases in one? In my humble opinion, why cheat? why just not use the resources that the people who made the game made avaible to you?... I guess is just a silly opinion...

Srdax, this will be my second time going solo through ToB, and my fourth time playing through BGII. I'm currently playing the game the way it interests me, which is what you're doing I'm sure. Regardless, thanks for the redemption attempt.

Thanks for your help Taza; I'll try that if there is no alternative, but I was really looking to get all 3 abilities in an easy way if possible, without downloading any character alteration programs (that is what NearInfinity is, right?). I would have thought that this issue would have frustrated enough solo-ers to get a quick-and-easy patch somewhere in popular ToB sites (maybe I'm just doing something wrong).

While playing solo, so i made my own quick-and-easy version.

Unfortunately, it's only for my machine. It will seriously bug your game if you try to install it without customizing it.

And you can't have all HLA's for a F/M/T, because the max number for hla's is 24, and F/M/T would have 30... I could make a simple fix for tomorrow, not today because i don't have net. :wail:

And no, NearInfinity is NOT a trainer, it's a game exploring/modifying program. If you don't have it, i seriously say that you MUST get it.

Here is a link to Baldurdash. There is a quick fix marked as "Triple-Class Mage High Level Abilities Fix"
    http://www.baldurdash.org/ToB/Fixes/TOBfixes.html

You won't get the 9th level spells though, unless you kill the XP cap and can cast them normally.

well, check out the downloads in this site, there should be a unofficial "patch" that doesnt ruin anything but fixes a number of bugs in the game that black isle have forgotten, one of them is the fighter\mage\thief and fighter\mage\cleric issue.

I'm apparently not finding it, and I've tried every patch on this site that said anything regarding the mage's abilities in triple class special abilities. I can get the extra 6, 7, and 8 spell slots, but I'm trying to get access to spells like improved alacrity and dragon's breath. I've also tried the file on Baldurdash. I give my character the xp necessary to find out whether or not he would be able to gain access to those spells after unzipping one, so it's not an issue of whether or not I would be able to cast them.

Doesn't work. I assume it's the same file I asked you about some time back. And that does precisely what War Nerve described in the beginning. It gives extra 6-8 level spells, but not the actual HLA's of a mage (such as Improved Alactricity (what's a mage without this?), Dragon's Breath, Energy Disks, etc).

Exactly, Foradasthar. I don't believe there is a download on SP that grants those aforementioned spells.

However, Taza sent me a mage-friendly mod a few hours ago which gives a combination of all 3 classes' HLAs, including Improved Alacrity, Dragon's Breath, and Summon Planetar. A few from each class are left out to meet the available number of slots in the HLA pannel, but the most important HLAs from all three classes are there. This mod is perfect as far as I'm concerned. Thanks again, Taza.

Well, then someone should let Baldurdash know his fix doesn't work. And Taza, send your fix to me! I'll put it on SP.

As described at Baldurdash, that particular fix is merely for the level 6-8 slots, not the level 10 spells.

Eh, I see what the problem is. He changed the description of the fix on his site. The old description still on SP suggests something else entirely. (That it actually fixes what you want it to fix.)

    I'll update it later today.

[IMG] Hey Taza, I have a little question, hihi:
No really, You said that the maximum HLAs one can have are 24, you're probably right (I don't know because I just bought ToB) , but you also said that a F/M/T could never get all the HLAs because he then would end up with 30.
??? When I count all the HLAs that are listed in these 3 pools (F, M and T)in the manual, I end up with 24???
Am I overlooking something, or what???

Please tell me, because I was thinking to start the game with a F/M/T myself!!
