[IMG] How annoying? How can you say that. He nevers iniates conversation. You must find him and start it yourself. I'm glad he is there. I like Volo, and I love his little spiels on everyone in the party.

You've got to love the man, really. Every single human male mage in the game apart from Volo has the standard beard/robe format while Volo has that smooth-arsed beret.

Simply put, the man got style. And his "erh the check, yes, another beer please" is quite amusing.

I'm a little annoyed on principle by the BG designers' slavish need to put cameos by Elminster, Drizzt, and Volo in every single game they do. It's very annoying to travel to a completely different country and find that, surprise surprise, Elminster, Drizzt, and Volo have all gone to that country at the exact same time as you! Whaddaya know!

That said, though, Volo's cameo is pretty good. He just sits there in the bar, as Big B says. You never even need to talk to him at all if you don't want. He's not critical to the plot, he doesn't tell you all will be clear in time. He just tells you little bios of your NPCs. I thought it was rather nice.

I would kill him just for fun if I was evil. But I think he is cool. What he says and your partys reactions is kind of funny.

I don't have a problem with him. I don't understand some peoples strong feelings about Volo, Drizzt, Elminster, et al. appearing in the games. It is fanboyish, but so what?
My experience with D&D is playing real games (in the past, before CRPGs) and playing some of the CRPGs. I have not read any of the books or seen the movie. So these characters are just other characters to me. If it makes the fanboys happy, then good for them, otherwise, I don't see the big deal.

    minor noobish question....

are volo's little things about the various party members different if you're involved in an active romance at the time?

No. He only has one thing to say about each NPC, and you, of course.

  12. Alright, has anybody tried fighting Volo?
I'm not going to play TOB again so anyone who's around there please try to fight him. And also try to Ctrl-Q him. Tell us what is in his record or sumthing. Thanks.

EDITED: Huh? I levelled up! Wohoo! Joy to the world!

Jack, I, personally, just think it's stupid. It reminds me of the really bad Champions GM in high school who would constantly make your heroes run into Superman every single adventure. It doesn't matter if you go to Rwanda or the moons of Jupiter, Supe would happen to happen by. It just gets idiotic.

I feel the same way about Drizzt and Elminster having to stick their nose into every game. There could be Baldur's Gate III: Journey to Maztica, and for some lame reason Elminster would show up in Maztica to give you useless, mysterious advice, and Drizzt would wander through to mug for the camera and make you space-bar your way through a long witty conversation amongst him and his famous friends before leaving.

It's just bad writing. I didn't care about the cameos of a couple of other famous characters like Jarlaxle because at least they were in the right place at the right time and didn't keep bloody following you and clamoring for attention.

im forced to contract my friends however i was thouroughly trilled to see drizzt in the game again it allowed me to kill him for the second time as well as giving me some peice of crap euipment which i had already stole from the editor, tho i have ben able to beat him before using 6 my own made monks against him. one final note the only guy i really hate is the mage who comes to jack drizzts stuff before you even get a chance to kill em

Rhythmic Barbarian; I havent tried killing Volo in TOB, but it'd certainly be interesting. I always wanted to kill him in BG1 but he was invincible for some odd reason. Its not even as if he played a vital role in the plot; at least Elminster gave enigmatic little clues about your parentage. Oh well; his appearence in TOB is fun, anyway.

  16. Well, I decided to try to kill him myself. Strangely, I encountered two bugs in the game. I started a new ToB game, imported character got through until the first challenge. Using two characters, me and Sarevok, I went through the first challenge. Killed all the drow that teleported in, then an Ogre Magi suddenly teleported in and out, but I managed to kill him. But then suddenly Jon Irenicus appeared and we had to fight him. In all my games this has never happened before.

After I finally defeated him, the fat guy pops up and bla bla bla, I'm in Saradush.
Kicked the guard's asses then went to the inn. Okay, after talking to Volo I attacked him. I launched a bolt at him to get him hostile but when the bolt hits him, and *pouf*, he's gone. Is this a bug or something? It happened again and again after every reload.
