I think they are alot of fun, I tried soloing with one but a fighter/mage seemed more appealing. They have a couple of good spells and the wild surges are allways fun (and useful).

    Cheers, Void

[IMG] Go for it if you like to try new things and are ready for a few surprises. The 3 new spells that wild mages get open the door for new strategies with mages, well when they work as you want them too of course ;). And even when they don't, it's still amusing.

This kit is strong enough, an interesting addition to the game, and very good for 'real' roleplaying. So try it out!

Be sure to make the alignment Chaotic Neutral, I really don't see how a wild mage could be any other.

Oh and regarding Fighter/Mages of any kind: they make the game WAY too easy! I was just playing an elven f/m, after I got the Robe of Vecna, Celestial Fury, and Dak'kon's Zerth Blade, before even leaving Athkalta, I gave up. It wasn't fun anymore. He was practically invulnerable to pysical harm of any kind. With stoneskin, fireshield, blur, mirror image, bracers of AC 3, ring of earth control, ring of protection +2, amulet of power, and soon to be Ring of Gaxx, who needs armor?

Why put alignment restrictions on a wild mage? That judgement is left up to each individual. Mine was chaotic good.

Indeed, if my reading of the wild mage description is correct, he is not necessarily "wild" in himself, but rather is trying to use wild and unpredictable magical energy. If there was a class - Physicist, kit - Chaos Theorist, it would be silly to say that he would have to be chaotic.

[IMG] Simply put, wild mages are great fun to play because not only are wild surges often handy(ish), and you get the specialist mage spell bonus, but they're just more fun to play then a bog standard mage or sorcerer. Sure they might not be as practical, but you just can't help falling for a wizard who causes hiccuping, squeeky voices and just about anything else from being conjured up.

They get the specialist bonus without spell school restictions?! Man I have to try this guy!

I've been playing one for a while now, and I think the class is great (of course, I loved it in D&D too, but I digress). I've been through 4 levels of the Watcher's Keep and am currently working my way to Yaga Shura's temple. Occasionally the wild surges work against you, but they work for you just as often. At higher levels, combining a Chaos Shield with a few Nahal's Reckless Dwoemers will almost always give you any spell you want, memorized or not, which is almost as good as a sorcerer, but with a vastly superior selection.
And the Sorcerer can't get a COW! either...

[IMG] Can the wild mage kit be imported into BG1 with all spells for that class?

    Simply put, no.

Hmm, I tried him out, but I really don't like getting a lower casting level each some I cast something. Just too...unpredictable for me.
