[IMG] I am currently trying to figure out how to make a mod for BG II (I'm planning to make it compactible with Throne of Bhaal, once I've finished it for BG II without the expansion pack.). However, I've run into some problems. The following are the problems:

    1) How do you make a mod in the first place? Yes, I know that in order to make a mod, you have to know how to make one. However, I have decided to decide on what to put in the mod first, before I sit down and make a mod. This helps me in figuring out how much work I'm going to have to do. If you any advice or know of any sites that can help me, please post them. I would appreciate it very much.

    2) How would I increase the maximum number of NPCs in the party from six to seven? I really want to have the following characters in my party: the Child of Bhaal (the main character), Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie (my main character's love interest), Nalia, Anomen, and Imoen. If anyone knows how to do this, please help me out here.

    3) I thinking of putting in the option of choosing your main character's religion. This option will come up in dialogue. For example, Aerie, being a priest and my character's girlfriend, would ask the main character who does he worship. Then, the following dialogue options appear: Ilmater, Torm, Helm, Mystra, Tyr, Mask, Talos, Selune, Lathander, Oghma, Mielikki, Tymora, or Tempus. Now, those deities that I just listed would only be available if your main character isn't one of the priest kits (meaning that if you're a Priest of Helm, Helm is the only deity you can choose from), and if he is a human, half-elf, or half-orc. If he is an elf, then the only option you get is Corellon Larethian. If he's a dwarf, then it's Moradin. If he's a gnome character, then you can only pick Garl Glittergold, while if you're a halfling, you'll get Yondalla. I know there are other deities in the dwarven, elven, halfling, and gnomish pantheons, but I'm trying to make this mod's scripts as short as humanly possible. Anyhow, after picking a deity, then Aerie would say something, with some of the other NPCs joining in the conversation. If you would like to help me with this, I would be very grateful.

    4) Add more depth to the Romances. For starters, I'm thinking of adding a Birthday Quest. This quest would allow you to get a birthday present for your love interest. It won't matter if I pick the wrong month and day for each one of the romance NPCs, I'm just going to use any old day of the week and month of the year. Any advice would be helpful.

If you would like to help me in designing this mod, I would be very grateful if someone wanted to help me.

At minimum, you learn how to operate WeiDU and likely at least one of the "full-suite" editors, typically Near Infinity or DLTCEP.

There are a variety of modding tutorial sites, such as http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php?board=16.0 .

    You can't.

You will need to research repairing the Kit() trigger (documented various places) to filter out those that have already chosen a religion via kit. Then it's just dialogue.

You'll need to understand how to create dialogue, and for a quest, probably understand how to make new creatures and/or items, with NI or DLTCEP.

The Cleric Remix mod at Gibberlings Three allows Clerics to pick a deity. :) I'd recommend checking out the link that JC posted, tutorials there cover most of the basics.

I see. Well, that link you gave me jcompton had another link to some site. Here's the site: GemRB: Infinity Engine Emulator. I think there's a mod here that let's you edit the data to let you have more than six characters. I think.
Anyhow, thank you both for the help. :)

GemRB is an experimental project, and while it would be wonderful if you wished to contribute to it, it might not be the most effective way for you to learn how to mod.

The classical way to make a mod is better, i.e. you first make the mod and test it in your game, and then make a package for it with WeiDU. So learning how to use WeiDU can wait.

The Black Wyrm community gladly assists in creating your mod in case you need our help.
In fact, once your mod is ready, Black Wyrm can help you to make the WeiDU .tp2 file for you or if you manage to do it on your own, we can check if it works properly.

I would be happy to listen to ideas, but am busy with lots of modding projects of my own at the moment so probably won't be able to code. :) Most modders have their hands full all the time, so the best way to get something coded is normally to learn yourself.

It's still better to use WeiDU to test it on your machine due to the ease of uninstallation.

When the WeiDU package is finished and you have backed up all your important mod files and dialog.tlk etc., then of course you HAVE to test the mod after installing it with WeiDU setup.
