Vampire fighting strategies?

I'm still early on in the game and the vampires give me a lot of trouble. Any hints on how to defeat them easily?

 

Wait untill a little later in the game.

Else try to get mace of disruption +2

if its the shadow thief quest, summoning some monsters also works rather well

- Have at least one Negative Plane Protection (cleric level 4 spell) memorized if you go out at night.
- Concentrate all attacks on one vampire at a time.
- Summon monsters to occupy the vampire.

If you have 15,000 gp you can meet with Aran Linvail and he gives you an item that helps fighting vampires.

 

Sunray spell is the most effective way to kill undead....

 

Protection from undead scrolls work a treat...

There's asword in the gate distict that allows you to cast sunray. It's accessible early (but not without sweat ... and blood).

After You get Linvails necklace. Put it on a mage.
Then pour a drink while You cast the following 2 spells (this might be a bit difficult but it should be possible to make the drink with left hand ) : Stoneskin and fireshield red.
Then confront the vampire. Then put the mouse pointer back at the stoneskinspell and enjoy your drink while the vampires slays intself.
NOTE: don't make the drink too strong as it would be an advantage that You are capable of pushing the mousebotton a few times on the stoneskin-icon

 

Can you get a sunray spell early in the game? Where from?

 

The long sword "Daystar" allows you to cast Sunray once/day. Daystar can be taken early in the game, but not without a fight.

Are You guys sure its a good idea to send Mo out for the daystar? when He/she asks for advice againsts vampires the daystar fight is rather impossible

 

What is a good level to take on that thing? The bastard casts TS on me 2 seconds into the fight.

 

I've just been in the Crooked Crane, not much happened, am I missing something?

 

Search for hidden doors( same as searching for traps.)

HAve You bought a scrool of protection Vs. magic? and have You made a seperate save game. If Yes on both Mo.. Then let the force guide You. And as Yoda said. There is no try only do and do not

i still love the fry them tactic...

cast web and then fireball all those tenovas and vampires... they're very vulnerable to fire

 

An alternative approach:

Give the mace of disruption to minsc and give him a shield to improve his AC. With vamps as his natural enemy he´ll excell against them and he´ll be immune to level drain.

Give the amulet of power to jaheira, dress her in steel and give her this +3 mace you find in trademeet. She´ll be immune to level drain too and with strength enhacer she´ll have quite a good punch.

Keep the rest of your party in the background supporting the two with spells and ranged weapons.

Don´t forget to protect the rest of the party with the lvl-4 priest/ druid spell "protection from negative plane" from level drain. Protection from evil also helps. That should work.

 

Sunray does double dmg to undead or something. However it does about 10,000 dmg to vampires. Don't like the sun I guess .

edit> Also, try enraging Minsc/Korgan. When they are enraged they get immune to lvl drain.

That's one of the reasons I allied myself to the vampires in the first place. It's easier not to have to fight them early on.
