    Greetings

My main character in my created game is a Paladin. I would like to give my Sorcerer a familiar, but whenever he casts the spell, it says "Find Familiar may only be cast by the protagonist" and I fear this means the MAIN character may only cast it.

Is there any alternative method to this?

no, only your character can get the familiar, if he is a sorcerer or mage. Paladin's don't get familiars and the NPC's can't get it either :)

If you don't have the SP fixpack, your paladin can get a familiar. Just have a potion in your inventory (not the quickslots), drink it, and replace it with a scroll of find familiar.

[IMG] Or open up Shadowkeeper, and give your Pally the Innate Spell Find Familiar (from the Beastmaster), if you really want it.

There is a way for your protagonist to cast Find Familiar without the use of Shadowkeeper or CLUA Console.
    Components:
    2 Characters
    1 Potion
1 Find Familiar Scroll (there is one in De'Arnise Keep)
Okay pause the game drink a potion with your protagonist, then get the scroll from your other character and put the scroll in the square with potion, then put the potion in the square that contained the scroll.

EDIT: Stupid me! Frostmage has written this before!

[IMG] My mage/thief has a familair right now - a stupid rabbit. I am looking forward to going to the planar prison so I can leave the &*$#* thing behind and get rid it forever.
I understand that this is one of the only ways to get rid of a familiar without losing a point of constitution - can anyone confirm this? Why can't I just tell it to *&%@$ off?

I find it just dead weight. I'm constantly having to protect it or carry it around. It's next to useless though I sometimes use it as a decoy to lure monsters into an ambush.

    *****???

You can not get rid of your familiar like that (or you can, but that is not wise)

You get bonus HP's when you carry your familiar around, you can pickpocket with a rabbit, and if you pickpocket from your party members, you can use that rabbit as a pack of holding (i remember there's no limit how many pickpocketed items can the rabbit hold).

When I play mages of any sort, I always get the familiar. The extra HP are worth the effort, and the familiar only takes up one slot of 16 (who uses their mage to carry things around anyway? with scroll cases, the Bag of Holding, and gem bags, gear is never a problem anyhow.)

I apologize in advance if this is a competitor's site -- it doesn't look it, it is just a page as far as I can see. Anyhow, it has an incredibly complicated (for me, anyhow) way for anyone to get a familiar.

If the site is forbidden, or if this method is somewhere on SP, then please just delete this entire post, my Administrative friends.

    I remember this is true.
It does not work for anything but carry-to-the-next-shop-loot, though.

    1. Get the rabbit out of your inventory.
    2. Remove all items from a party member.
    3. Put all items to store at that party members inventory.
    4. Pickpocket all the items with the familiar from that char's inventory.
    5. Re-equip that party member.
    6. Take the rabbit back to your inventory.
    7. Go to a shop.
    8. Ask what he's stolen from that rabbit.

One thing I remember someone gloating about was using the rabbit familiar for serious cheese. Have him pickpocket items that are subject to a game-check (i.e., drow armor/weapons or the rod from the Unseeing Eye quest) then grab them back after the check point. You get to keep some powerful stuff that way if you don't mind the cheesy tactics.

[IMG] I have seriously underestimated the little bunny and for that I am sorry.
I will henceforth stop kicking him at every opportunity. :p
