I just LOVE Bioware for making such a fantastic saga (who doesn't), but at the same time I HATE them for that lousy ending. It's been used a million times, they could as well just write "And they lived happily ever after. The End."

No, I think that it should be like this:
No matter what option you choose at the very end, you should not become a god, but a mortal. In this way Bioware could make the storyline continue in BG3: Clouds of the Past. In this continuation you would then, 5 or 10 years after the ending of BG2: ToB, be asked to do a favor for the gods. This favor could be something like tracking down and killing someone in search for the Essence of Bhaal (Cyric perhaps).

And then finally they could make an expansion for BG3, where you would be able to visit all the places you've been (Baldur's Gate, Candlekeep, Athkala, etc.) in search for the only artifact able to hold the Essence of Bhaal. Ending with the PC and NPCs in the party dying of old age. Then the saga would have a good ending, ending the entire saga without the possibility of continuation (as the main character is dead).

This would also solve all the romance problems, ending these for good (ie. Jaheira and PC dying together at their home, while thinking on the adventure that started so long ago in a small tavern).

Well that's just my opinion, feel free to post any replies and/or corrections, as I've been thinking on writing the hole story of the Baldur's Gate saga, with complete ending (as the one I suggested)...

(Maybe I should also contact Bioware to get some story background information from them)...

I think they rounded it up nicely. Either you become a good god, or a evil god, or you live your further life as a mortal. Whatever you become there's a nice little something about the continuation of your life, and there it ends.

I don't feel like playing my character till he is so old he dies of age. You think by that time he can still be wielding scimitars? More likely he's rolling away from monsters in his wheelchair. Although I could throw my teeth at monsters when I'm that old. ;)

[IMG] well I agree that a BG3 would be nice...but I'd rather just continue on with my romance with Aerie...maybe Bioware will come out with a game like SIM Hot Date...just better graphics, and an acutal stortline... :hahaerr:

Sounds really good... although, by that time, what level and what items would the chars have?

  5. Why not make you start back to lvl 1 again? Or, as it has been suggested, make it the protoblah's son/daughter so if they go back to there parents every now and then they give you stuff they got a long time ago, like if you are a pally and you slayed a dragon, your daddy might give you the Casomyr...

It'd be a pretty dysfunctional family if your daddy wrapped the Soul Reaver in nice Santa paper and a big red bow, no?

Sure, a BG3 would be nice, but realistically, the game would have to be the same set of rules as the previous games, i.e. largely an adaption of the 2nd edition rules, with a few smatterings of 3rd edition, but people will want 3rd edition, and it would get very complicated. Likewise, the characters would get obcenely powerful. Think of the enemies that they would have to provide with level 40 + parties? It would be insane. Third of all, they probably want to work on more ambitious projects like NWN than having to be stuck using the same old engine and the like.

I disagree. The ending is pretty good, and it is perfect for this saga (At least the good godly ending).

May I just say that all endings are very good? I mean, that all depends on how you've played through the saga. If you've played as a powerhorny evil character, the evilgod ending fits. The same fits for the two other endings (It depends on how YOU went through the entire series with your character)

Even if you are a paldin you can be an evil god, depending on what you say to the Solar depends on what you become at the end

How can you have a good lord of murder?

"I'm the lord of murder, my hobbies include skipping and making daisy chains!"

While Murder and Good are kind of opposites, you could look at it this way. By becoming the god of murder yourself, you prevent others from gaining godstatus. Those others would abuse the power, while you could minimize the damage so to say. (You play the lesser evil to prevent a worse)

    good one 8people...

    *"daisy chains".. hehheh...*

anyway, a good lord of murder could stop people murdering or something to that effect. sort of like moses giving the 10 commandments on the mountain. or somethin.

I havent played to the end of ToB myself, ive
just got to Abazigals lair; but IIRC, you do
not necessarilly become the God of Murder, just a god.

Because you can still opt to be a god even if
    you are of good alignment.

    Correct me if im wrong.

    You're wrong. :)

In the end it comes down to who gets the Throne of Bhaal. Bhaal was the God of Murder, thus by taking his throne you take his place. (Like iirc Cyric who wanted to take the job of god of murder aside from his earlier godjobs :p)

Well, I heard that Interplay and Bioware don't have a contract anymore, and the Copyright is at Interplay, and the masters are at Bioware.... That's why they had to cut the story short...( I think)

[IMG] No, that was not the case at all. They didn't cut anything short.

Uhh... Only today I even became aware of there being a good god ending. I played ToB through once with a neutral evil character who was evil by alignment only. And hanging with Korgan and Sarevok of course (viconia was with him too but since she changed her alignment to neutral, it doesn't count) added some to his evilness but that's it. Their reputation was good nonetheless. Ending was bad. IMO though, aside from the lousy dialogue options and actor work in ToB, it's a good expansion kit. And the endings (with the good god ending that I'm eagerly waiting to see) are better by far than what the could've been. A good way to end the saga and not make it one of those neverending craps out there, and at the same time leave it a bit open for everyone to keep living it in their imagination. I say: Good work!

There's a little dilemma there btw. You see, I actually pondered for quite a while before deciding on the neutral evil alignment. Since I wanted the character associate to the same way of thinking as one of my friends has (and undoubtetly many other ppl out there, as this appears to be a trend of a sort). If you want to kill all sentient beings harming the balance of nature, would you be evil.. or chaotig good perhaps? Well since to others this would appear as evil, I decided on neutral evil. Meaning he has no character flaws like slaughtering children or the sort, generally acting evil just because it's evil. He just want's to get rid of the ppl as that's the lesser bad when choosing between the two choices as he sees it.

Hmm... This might actually be called offtopic?

Then I'd like to ask: *SPOILER*

Are there multiple romantic endings, depending on your alignment or deeds throughout the game? Is it possible to spend a happy life with Viconia without her winding up dead (in my mind she'll be alive forever, of course :D)?

[IMG] All romances have one set ending. Sorry. And you should make a new topic if you want to discuss it further.
