I finally bought a new system (after 6 years) and I would like to install IWD2 on it. But before I do I was wondering if it will run okay in Windows Vista. Has anybody tried it? Were there problems, and if so could they be resolved?

Suprisingly IWD2 has run better for me under vista than under XP. Only notable problems with it is that environmental audio (EAX and the like) will be disabled. It doesn't even suffer from vista's opengl wierdness since it never had opengl.

No problems at all with IWD2. It should work fine.

Status update on IWD2 in Vista 64, for those who care.

I had a problem which caused all items on the ground to display with black boxes around them. Dialog also showed up like that.

Other users on different forums with 8800 GTS graphics cards (same as mine) reported similar issues.

eventually I fixed it, well sort of. I have to make the game display in 16 bit colour (in the game's config program) and make sure that Software transparency is ticked (cant remember the exact description).

that makes the computer perform the transparency calculations in software, which my graphics card wasnt doing properly.

Another user posted a fix involving compatibility settings, but they didnt work for me.

Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.

I'm running 32 bit Vista, with an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series video card. I have no issues, except that when I run IWD2 in Windowed mode, it lags immensely, and with other Infinity Engine games (BG, BG2, etc). If I change my display theme to Vista Basic, it stops, but then I get graphical lag in windows, especially when using scrollbars. This only happens in Windowed, and Fullscreen is fine.

Otherwise the game runs exactly the way it should.

It did not work for me on Vista Basic. Installation froze up when putting CD1 back in right at the end. This was last night, installed XP straight after in annoyance and I'm so glad I did.

It works perfectly fine for me (topic kick? Dunno...), yet I STILL can't enable 3D acceleration...I wonder if that's ever been possible for anybody..

What forum was this on? I'm having the exact same problems (8800 GeForce card) and would prefer not to run it in 16-bit color mode. I'd like to check out that other guy's compatibility settings solution.

In order to run IWD2 on a GF8800 you have to lower the 3d-acceleration slider under "Compatability Options" in Display Properties until it works (I think it's the third of fourth setting that will do fine)
This also works for the other IE games that don't support OpenGL rendering (BG1, PS:T)

    Eddy,

Where is the Display Properties menu? I am using a GeForce 8800 GT, but I didn't find anything called Display Properties in the Nvidia control panel.

The hardware acceleration is not available to change in Vista x64, well I cant anyway.

So you have to use 16 bit color mode and set the "Software BLT" option. This works for me fine but there is also another problem I have.

Any save game I load will take ages to load, like 30 seconds or so but loading areas is very quick. Does any1 else have similar problems? Know how it can be fixed?

    my specs: E6600 @ 3.4, 2GB a-DATA 800, 150GB Raptor, 8800GTXOC2.
