Have you noticed that mirror image protects also from some areabased spells. For example DBFireball.Even if the spell is your own. I haven't tried that with many spells but you can try.So if you cast DBFireball and then mirror image. Then you walk straight towards DBFireball until it explodes and you take no damage, You only lose one duplicates of those which mirror image create.

Maybe this fuctions like that because DBFIreball activates itself when somebody walks through it, so somebody walking through it is a single target for a spell, so he or she is also protected by a Mirror Image spell...

It goes same if you try with Fireball.Try it. Cast first mirror image and then fireball just nex to you so you are in the area where fireball causes damage. Not in the center of fireball. You take no damage for Fireball.

I have never used a DBFireball spell, but i use a lot of ordinary Fireballs, and i must say have never experienced the thing you are talking about. MAybe it's a bug, but a helpful one i think:)

The same applies to traps. If your Mirror Imaged character walks over a trap, it goes off with no damage to the character, but removes one Image.
It's not really a bug, as the spell is functioning the way it's supposed to, it's just a very nice benefit.

The same is also true of BG1.

IWD2 was supposed to be a quickie project that took far longer than they wanted it to, precisely because of the changeover to 3E rules. I think they just didn't want to take the time to program the difference between area-effect and single-attack for purposes of one spell called Mirror Image. IMHO at least.

Too true, Beren. It is a bug. Having multiple copies of yourself is supposed to throw off potential attackers. Also, normally, having mirror images does not mean the attacker can't hit you, you just have a great chance that the thing it is attacking is an illusion. So say, with 3 mirror images you can still take damage, only there's a 75% miss chance. Basically, this bugged super-mirror image makes sorcerers/wizards/bards insanely powerful. I soloed a sorc. no problem because I was practically invincible. Melee, ranged, traps, area-damage, it didn't matter. Just lose an image.

It works with any area of affect spell. Meteor Swarm, Cloudkill, DB Fireball, Horrid Wilting. Take my word for it, I used them all to my advantage. Oh, throw on a Fireshield too. When they hit a mirror image, they take fireshield damage.

Get it? Anyways, I don't think it's a bug, per se. Maybe it's working just a little bit too well, not that I'm complaining or anything. I don't think that it warrants a patch to fix it.

Well, one is always tempted to call it a bug when the spell description in the 3E Player's Handbook is explicit about what the limitations of the spell are. All the more so when BG2 acknowledged those limitations.

Mirror Image in IWD2 like in BG1 was misnamed. It should be called "Spell of complete immunity to everything" (except secondary weapon effects such as poison or wounding). It tends to work the way that stoneskin did in BG2. Great spell. I always get and use it.
