If you want to make any level character without modifying using an application keep on reading. When you get the book that gives you 10 000 exp save your game. Export your character and call him exp. After a series of import exp you should have a character with 20-30 books worth 10 000 each. You can start a new game and import multiple copies of exp with your new character and voila here is your new character. This works well for studying how new characters will do. cheers!

Or you can just use the cheatconsole to set the exp to a number of your desire, which is a much more effective way. :)

Too true Faragon  ! Using the Cheat Console is far better and efficient. Or you could write a script that auto-lvl's chars and such.

If the creators didn't want us to cheat, they wouldn't have left the console in, let alone have a check box in the config screen for it. :p JMO, of course.

I don't use the console for cheating, but for testing and getting around bugs.

That's a good idea 'bout the book, but why go through so much trouble if you can just use the cheat console? :D

What is the form of cheating we are talking about? Could someone give me a clear defination for cheating?

Don't know about you but i use console a lot. There are so many testing to be done, so many mails to be answered, so many questions to be addressed. Without cheating i seriously don't know how to test if the things i wrote in my walkthrough is correct or not.

How about the famous 'modified mandrake root' bug? You did what Nheero tell you to do, you met his dead pal, he showed you where he threw the root, you went there and you cannot find the what you want, ever. How do you overcome this?
A - just create a modified mandrake root.
B - start the whole chapter again and try to figure out what went wrong.

(No offense, but..) A middle age office man, saved some extra money, spent a good $50 on a new game and reached a dead end while playing. No matter how hard he tried, he is just not quick (mental wise, body wise) enough to overcome it. So, what do you propose he do?
A - use the cheat codes.
B - throw the game away and find another one.

People have their reasons to use cheat code that comes with the game. You may be good at a game and you never need to use the codes, but there are people who are not. For whatever reason they hide behind, it is still valid to use cheat codes as long as they can have fun with the game, correct?

Yes, they're free to use it. However, someone stating they did this and that in the game, stating it as their own personal victory and then mentioning how they gave themselves 95% resists to all, unlimited spells and killerswords, they get no respect from me. And if we're talking multiplayering with other people, I'd smack them around, because they could be potentially ruining other people's fun with their hacked characters.

If someone is playing home alone, and they can't have fun without the console, for whatever reason, they're of course free to use it.

As for someone not having the capacities to finish the game quickly, that's part of the fun of games. The challenge to push yourself, to solve the puzzle, to keep trying to beat that boss.

Challenges are what makes games fun. Or at least to me it is. I'd hate to blast through a game, getting no challenge from it. If a game can't beat me down mercilessly every now and then, it's not an interesting game to me.

While it is true that a console would afford the same outcome, i still try to remain "cheat" free.
I use the game to provide ways to increase experience, stats, items in a way where it does not seem like cheating. This is just my own opinion but using a character editor to max stats or the console to load up experience is too easy. It does take longer but i don't feel any guilt at cheating.

But it's still cheating. You're using a feature in the game rules to make your characters stronger, while in the roleplaying aspect of the game, you could not have gained such a bonus to your character.

You know of the Ice Temple prisoners bug? You can get lots of XP from it without using console or such. But I think it is still cheating...
If one wants to cheat he/she is free to do in single player. But in MP cheating is unforgiven.
